Dear Parent/Guardian:
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act is our country’s most important federal education law. In
2001, this law was reauthorized and is now called the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). NCLB was
designed to make changes in teaching and learning that will increase academic achievement in our schools.
The law requires that all schools receiving Title I funds must inform parents of their right to ask schools
about the qualifications of their child’s teachers. Our district receives Title I funding and we are happy to
share this information with you at your request.
We believe that nothing is more important to your child’s education at school than having a well-prepared
and highly qualified teacher. The law requires that all teachers who teach in core content areas must meet a
specific legal definition of “highly qualified” in order to teach in schools that receive Title I funding. The legal
definition of a “highly qualified teacher” has three parts. It states that the teacher must have the following:
1. A four-year college degree
2. A regular teaching certificate/license
3. Proof of his/her knowledge in the subject they teach.
New Jersey has some of the most qualified teachers in the country and we are extremely proud of the
quality of the teaching staff in the Bridgeton Public School District. All of our regular teachers have college
degrees and many have advanced degrees. The state of New Jersey has always required a teaching
certificate/license for all teachers. In addition, every teacher continues learning through professional
development activities and our teachers are evaluated each year to ensure that their teaching skills remain
at the highest possible level. Most teachers already meet this legal definition of highly qualified. Teachers
in the state of New Jersey are required to meet this definition.
To ensure that every child, in every classroom has a highly qualified teacher, the state of New Jersey and
our school district are working together to help teachers meet the requirements of the federal law by
providing several options. Teachers may take a content Praxis test or they can demonstrate their expertise
through a college major in the content. A highly qualified teacher knows what to teach, how to teach, and
has a full understanding of the subject matter being taught. We believe that every teacher in our school
district is fully qualified and dedicated to teaching your child. We will do everything possible to help our
teachers who may not yet meet the legal definition required by the federal government.

El Decreto de Educación Primaria y Secundaria es la ley de educación federal más importante de nuestro país.
Esta ley fue autorizada nuevamente en el 2001 y ahora se llama La Ley de Sin Dejar Atrás a Ningún Niño (Siglas
en Inglés de la ley NCLB). NCLB se creó para hacer cambios en la enseñanza y aprendizaje que ayudarán a
aumentar el logro académico en nuestras escuelas.
La ley ordena que todas las escuelas que reciben fondos del Título I deban informar a los padres de su derecho
de solicitar a las escuelas información sobre la capacidad de los maestros de sus niños. Nuestro distrito recibe
fondos del Título I y estamos complacidos en compartir esta información con usted cuando usted la solicite.
Creemos que nada es más importante para la educación de su niño(a) que el contar con un(a) maestro(a) bien
preparado(a) y altamente capacitado(a). La ley requiere que todos los maestros que enseñan en áreas del
contenido de asignaturas comunes deben cumplir con una definición específica legal de “altamente
capacitado(a)”, a fin de enseñar en las escuelas que reciben fondos del Título I. La definición legal de un(a)
“maestro(a) sumamente capacitado(a)” tiene tres partes. Declara que el(la) maestro(a) debe contar con lo
siguiente:
1. Un grado universitario de cuatro años
2. Un certificado licencia regular para poder enseñar
3. Constancia de su conocimiento en la materia que enseña
Nueva Jersey cuenta con algunos de los maestros más capacitados en el país, y estamos extremadamente
orgullosos de la calidad del personal de enseñanza en el Distrito Escolar Público de Bridgeton. Todos nuestros
maestros regulares tienen grados universitarios y muchos tienen grados avanzados. El estado de Nueva Jersey
siempre ha requerido un certificado o licencia de enseñanza para todos los maestros. Además, cada maestro(a)
continúa aprendiendo por medio de actividades de desarrollo profesional y nuestros maestros son evaluados cada
año para asegurarnos de que sus habilidades para la enseñanza permanecen al nivel más alto posible.
La mayoría de maestros ya cumplen con esta definición legal de altamente capacitado(a). A los maestros en el
estado de Nueva Jersey se les requiere cumplir con esta definición.
Para asegurarnos de que cada niño(a) en cada salón de clase tenga un(a) maestro(a) altamente capacitado(a), el
estado de Nueva Jersey y nuestro distrito escolar están trabajando conjuntamente para ayudar a los maestros a
cumplir con los requerimientos de la ley federal al proveer varias opciones. Los maestros pueden tomar una
prueba de Práctica en contenido, o pueden demostrar su experiencia por medio de una especialidad universitaria
en contenido. Un(a) maestro(a) altamente calificado(a) sabe que enseñar, como enseñar y tiene un entendimiento
total del contenido de la materia que se va a enseñar. Creemos que cada maestro en nuestro distrito escolar está
totalmente capacitado y dedicado para enseñar a su niño(a). Haremos todo lo que sea posible para ayudar a
nuestros maestros quienes puede que todavía no cumplen con la definición legal requerida por el gobierno
federal.
