facebook.com/IHMatlanta @IHMatl He Is Risen! ¡El Ha Resucitado! The Resurrection of the Lord April 5, 2015 Announcements An Easter Wish by Fr. Bill Hao St. Augustine once said that there is nothing great in believing that Christ died because pagans and Jews also believe it; but what is great is believing that Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Not only is the Resurrection of Christ the foundation of Christian faith, it is also the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise when He said, “I have the power to lay down my life, and I have the power to take it up again (Jn 10:1718),” and “destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up (Jn 2:19-20).” Easter commemorates the Resurrection of Christ. The Resurrection not only affirms Jesus' victory over death, it also reminds us to constantly return to the words and deeds of Jesus in the Gospel. We are called to live and proclaim Christ’s victory through our actions: by finding joy and beatitude in resisting the temptation to sin and to fight against the culture of hedonism, materialism, violence and death. The words from the Easter sequence capture this sentiment beautifully: life and death are locked in wondrous struggle; the struggle endures, but ultimate victory is assured by Jesus Christ; life's leader, once dead, reigns as the living one. Christ has indeed risen from the dead and ascended into heaven, but His work of salvation continues in the Church. And what is so great about the Catholic Church is that it not only offers us the fullness of Christian faith through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, it also offers the fullness of the means to salvation through the complete profession of faith, the full sacramental life with the seven sacraments, and an ordained ministry that comes from an unbroken line of apostolic succession. We have so much to be thankful for. Let Easter remind us to do our part in continuing God’s work of salvation. May you have abundant blessings this Easter! 2855 Briarcliff Road, NE Atlanta, Georgia 30329 Online room reservation for the IHM campus is now available. In March, those daffodils were in full bloom and provided a beautiful backdrop for a visit from Erin Beacham, Education Project Director with the AntiDefamation League, and Nida Mudd, an advocate for the Daffodil Project. Mrs. Mudd also brought along her daughter, a 3rd grader at St. Jude the Apostle, who was the influence behind the daffodil garden planted at her school. Below is the sign placed in our garden, designating the flowers as “part of the worldwide Living Holocaust Memorial.” The garden sign includes a quote from Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel: “How can a person...not be moved by compassion? And above all, how can anyone who remembers remain silent?” Pictured above are Guidance Counselor Angela Walsh, Nida Mudd and her daughter, Religion teacher Kathleen Pyrce, Erin. Indeed, our lives are focused on the Resurrection. This is the major feast day of the Church, for Christ came to die and rise from the dead for us. From that dying and rising, we have new life in Christ; we are united with God. Our churches, then, are decorated in gold and white, colors of new life and rejoicing. In the Responsorial Psalm, we sing, “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad,” for our lives are centered on this day. It is the day that provides hope for us. We are not dead because of our sin but forgiven because of God’s mercy. In the reading from the Acts of the Apostles, St. Peter summarizes what he has witnessed. Jesus was anointed, hanged, raised from the dead, and made visible to his followers. These followers preach, continuing to tell the story of the one who forgives sins. It is clear from this reading that Peter’s life has been changed. He now traces events and sees their culmination in the Resurrection. What meaning does the Resurrection have in your life? Are you open to its giving you a new perspective? Do you revolve your life around Easter? ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings: Decorate an Easter candle to reflect the resurrection of Jesus. Let everyone contribute in some way. Use the candle as a table centerpiece and light it every evening during the Easter Season. Make Easter bread together as a family. Before placing the bread in the oven, thank God for sending Jesus and for all of the blessings bestowed on your family. Color Easter eggs as a family and discuss their meaning. Point out that an egg is hard like a tomb but it also gives new life. As the activity is in process, discuss what is new in your life. © Liturgy Training Publications. 1-800-933-1800. Written by Michael R. Prendergast. Permission to publish granted by the Archdiocese of Chicago, on September 16, 2014. LISTEN: “Oh, Great Love of God” by David Crowder REFLECT: Our Lord is not primarily a teacher, He is a Savior. That’s the meaning of the word “Jesus”: He will save us from our sins. Suppose we took a chalice as an example of what He did for us. Suppose the chalice were taken from the altar and made into a mug and delivered over to unholy uses, its shape and contour completely changed. Then it was found. How could it ever be restored again to the altar? Well first of all, we would have to put it into a furnace, burn off the old shape and form, and hammer it again into the pattern of a chalice. Them we would bless it and restore it to the altar. (rising 6th-12th graders) IHM Vacation Bible School (VBS) Monday, July 13—Friday, July 17 8:30 a.m.—12:30 p.m. If you would like to volunteer this summer at this year’s VBS, please visit www.ihmatlanta.org/vacation-bibleschool. For direct questions please email [email protected]. Volunteering is EASY, FUN, and REWARDING!!! That is what God did with the human nature. He took this chalice of humanity, threw it into the fires of Calvary, where He was scourged and beaten, and then He was restored to a new shape on Easter and became the new creation. This is what He did with the pattern of human nature. PRAY: God, You came, You died, and You rose from the dead – all to save my soul. Your resurrection means I do not have to experience death; my last breath in this world is my entrance into the next. With this knowledge, I ask for the grace to live my life looking forward to eternity. Help me to make every decision with You in mind. Thank you for making me a new creation. I am changed, I am yours, and I am grateful. Amen. DO: Today on Easter, thank God for all the things you’re grateful for. Make every decision today (and everyday) with the knowledge that you will rise on the last day because Christ conquered death – He is risen. Just celebrate today. This is our day as Christians and Catholics. Copyright © Life Teen, Inc. CONFESIONES: | 404-636-1418 extensión 228 | [email protected] ¡EL SEÑOR RESUCITO! "He resucitado y estoy siempre contigo".
