This edition of Project Week is all about Museum Shop. Do you think it is interesting challenge for students to design souvenirs? Yes it is interesting but for me is also interesting to think about the role of this, what Constantin said during the lecture... why do we want this and why do we collect this- and what is really a content of such a thing? Because this thing itself is not very precious- but people can be really attached to it. Maybe you should think about it, and how can you dematerialize it, because we have to much stuff…maybe there is also an ecological reflexion on it, and it is interesting point for me- how do you manage to have this sort of icons without being material in a way. What do you expect Project Week will to teach your students? Working together in large groups because those are group sometimes more than 10 person… we don’t do that often and that is a good thing. And another thing is to communicate in English and even a little bit of Spanish. That’s a great because after their studies maybe they will get the same situation. I think what they learn here wouldn’t by directly new strategies of designing but maybe about communication about working with people you don’t know at all, different culture that sort of things. How do you like such a dynamic way of working during this workshop? That’s a bit similar as that we work. In our school is the same sort of concept. In this week in Brussels there is also workshop week called Workshop Week and also with mixed group but not in sense of different disciplines but mixed different years so they can learn from each other but they all interior designers. So it would be the same kind of working atmosphere, sort of stress around because at the end of a week it has to be done, there has to be a result. What convinced you to come to Logroño for Project Week? I think it is very interesting that the groups are mixed up and for us, because I am thinking about my students it is very interesting to be in mixed groups, with mixed disciplines, to be apart, not in the same group to be really in the spanish atmosphere also and that they can stay with students at nights. So one week they are really in to the atmosphere and daily living like a school. That’s a nice idea. And of course it is very interesting that Constantin Boym is dealing with this session. They have a chance to work with him so that’s also big argument. This edition of Project Week is all about Museum Shop. Do you think it is interesting challenge for students to design souvenirs? Yes, absolutely it is a challenge. This topic is rather unusual that’s why this task is perfect for them for designers. I think that Constantin chose it on purpose, a little bit pawky, to expand the definition of what the designer should exactly deal with. There are obvious topics that inmediately associate with the designers work like furniture or some interior stuff etc. But in fact, really good designer should be able to design everything even things that seem to be unworthy like for example souvenirs. Such a thing will be done anyway, this is unavoidable so if we won’t do this someone without competence will make really trashy object. So yes it is great task for a designer. What do you expect Project Week will to teach your students? I hope that they will make friends with some Spanish students. How do you like such a dynamic way of working during this workshop? Well I think is a great method of work. During this time my students can meet with people from different cultures and from different countries. These situation also forces them to speak in English. This is great opportunity for them because they usually don’t work like that, in groups, they rather work individually on their own projects. Ability to work as a part of a team is probably crucial for their future career. What convinced you to come to Logroño for Project Week? No one had to convinced me to come here as I was here last year with some other students and I knew what the Project Week is and what will be happening. So as soon as we got the invitation from Eva Torre we decided to come. There was no discussion if it is worth or no, we just started to organize the trip..
