“Take my yoke upon you, says the Lord, and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.”
Matthew 11:29ab
Mateo 11: 29ab
From the Pastor’s Desk
Del Escritorio del Pastor
Dear parishioners and friends:
“Everyone who exalts himself with be humbled,
everyone who humbles himself will be
exalted.” (Luke 14:1,7-14). These are the words
of our Lord in this week’s Gospel. We hear a call
for the virtue of humility. We are in the political
campaign season and the virtue of humility is a
virtue I think all candidates could use. One
definition of humility is the ability to recognize
mistakes and admit shortcomings. It is the acknowledgement that I may not have all the
answers. However, humility is not just for
politicians but a virtue for all of us, especially for
followers of Christ who lived humility, who
“humbled himself to accepting even death, death
on a cross.” (Philippians 2:8.) Humility is not
looking down on oneself with a “woe is me” kind
attitude. Humility is being honest with yourself.
It is recognizing your gifts and talents and using
them for others, and it is also recognizing your
shortcomings and limitations. Humility is the
recognition that you need God’s Grace. We
cannot get through life on our own, can we?
Humility is also taking a honest look at your faith
life and the state of your soul. The summer is
quickly coming to an end. September is often a
month of new beginnings, for example, a new
school year is fast approaching. Maybe
September is a good time to assess your faith life.
Can you pray more, serve more, or forgive more?
Do you need God’s mercy in the Sacrament of
Reconciliation? Can you share the Joy of the
Gospel with others and invite others to join you at
Mass each week?
Pray: Lord God, give me the grace of humility
and help me to recognize my gifts and growth
areas. Like you, Lord Jesus, help me to have the
attitude of service.
God Bless you and your Family, Father Vince
Queridos feligreses y amigos:
debilidades y limitaciones. La humildad es reconocer
que necesitamos de la gracia de Dios. Nosotros no
podemos ir por la vida solos. ¿Podemos?
crecimiento.
Padre Vince

Stewards rewarded in Heaven
“Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the
crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be
because of their inability to repay you." Luke 14:13 -14A
We have a difficult time with the concept of giving without
expecting something in return. Even when we give to charity
we often want something in return – a raffle ticket, a dinner,
or a chance to play golf. Yet, as Christian Stewards we need to
remember that the true reward for our giving awaits us
in heaven.

Parish News / Noticias Parroquiales
I am sorry to report to the community that the Parish Shrine experienced another vandalism event last week. Apparently a rock was
thrown at the outdoor statue of Our Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Guadalupe. Five of our Lady's fingers were damaged, the
hands were cracked at the wrist, and there is a crack across the top of the head. Police were notified and are investigating the
incident. Please pray for whoever would do such a thing to our beautiful Shrine and to the image of Our Blessed Mother. Now that
Mary's hands our damaged we are to become her hands. Mary's hands are hands of mercy. They held the infant Jesus at birth and
the crucified Lord at His death. They are hands of love and mercy and I pray we can become her gentle hands within our family and
community. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us. Father Vince
********************
Padre Vince

Coaches Needed! Would you let your child’s soccer, baseball or football team go without a coach?
If no one else stepped up to help, wouldn’t you do it? Even if you had no experience? You’d get a
playbook with coaching directions and plays, wouldn’t you? There would be someone else to
support you, answer your questions and help you along the way to success. You’d figure it out,
wouldn’t you? Just as a township sports team needs a coach, our Parish children need a catechist to
“coach” them in religion.
All of our Faith Formation “coaches” are given directions, play books (catechist manuals with all the answers) training, support
and resources you need to succeed. No previous experience is necessary; just a willingness to share the Catholic faith with
children.
The following “coaching” positions are needed for the upcoming Faith Formation Program year:
 3rd Grade Catechist on Sundays from 10-11:15 a.m.
 5th & 6th Grade Catechist on Mondays from 4-5:15 p.m.
 7th Grade Catechist on Monday nights from 6:45-8:00 p.m.
 Classroom aides and Substitutes for all grades, all program times/days.
Any parent that volunteers in the program, for the full year, will have their child’s registration fee waived as a sign of
appreciation for helping in the program.
Registration for next year’s program is now open! See our website for information.
Please call Michele in the parish office at 856-627-2222 for more information and to get your “coaches” pack.
