Letter Find
Doing activities together helps your child learn and shows your child how important
learning is to you. An activity like letter find will encourage your child to recognize
letters and talk to you while extending the language learning. While you are looking
for letters, talk about the pictures you see in the magazines and the sounds the letters
make to form the words you see.
What your child will do
Look for letters in magazines and glue them onto the paper.
What you need
•Magazines
•Scissors
•Glue
•Paper
What you do
1. Look through the magazines and pick out letters you recognize.
2. Cut or tear out the letters and glue the letters onto the paper.
3. Talk about the letters you find.
4. Work together to make words with the letters you find.
Questions to ask
Why did you choose the letters you cut out? Did all the letters you cut out look the
same? Were they the same color, same shape or same design? What words can you
make from those letters?
For parents
Sitting down one-on-one with your child shows him you value learning and the time
you spend with him. Letter recognition practice should be done in an activity that is
fun and shows the letters in the context of words or stories. This activity gives you the
opportunity to spend time with your child and extend her language by talking about
the items you find in the magazine.
