Student/Parent Reunification
Circumstances may occur at the school that requires parents
to pick up their students in a formalized, controlled release.
The process of controlled release is called a reunification and
may be necessary due to weather, a power outage, and
hazmat or if a crisis occurs at the school. The Standard
Reunification Method is a protocol that makes this process
more predictable and less chaotic for all involved.
Because a controlled release is not a typical end of school day
event, a reunification may occur at a different location than
the school a student attends. If this location is another
school, then those students may be subject to a controlled
release as well.
Notification
DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL PHONES. We will not be
answering phones during reunification. Parents may be
notified in a number of ways. The school or district may use
its broadcast phone or text message system. In some cases,
students may be asked to send a text message to their
parents. A reunification text message from a student may
look something like this: “The school has closed, please pick
me up at 3:25 at the main entrance. Bring your ID. “
How it Works
For students, the school asks that students be orderly and
quiet while waiting. Students may be asked to text a message
to their parents or guardians. Students are also asked not to
send other text messages either in or out of the school or
reunification area. Keeping the cellular network usage at a
minimum may be important during a reunification.
Reunification Cards
For parents, there are a couple of steps. If a parent is driving
to the school, greater awareness of traffic and emergency
vehicles is advised. Parents should park where indicated and
not abandon vehicles. Parents are asked to go to the
Reunification “Check In” area and form lines. While in line,
parents are asked to fill out a reunification card. Parents are
asked to complete all parts of the card.
In the case of multiple students being reunified to the same
adult and if the children have the same last name, one card
may be used. If not, another card will need to be filled out.
Parent/Guardian Expectations
If a parent or guardian is notified that a controlled release
and reunification is needed, there are some expectations that
parents or guardians should be aware of. First, bring
identification. That will streamline things during
reunification. Second, be patient. Reunification is a process
that protects both the safety of the student and provides for
an accountable change of custody from the school to a
recognized custodial parent or guardian.
What if a Parent Can’t Pick-up Their
Student?
When a parent can’t immediately go to the reunification site,
students will only be released to individuals previously
identified as a student’s emergency contact. Otherwise, the
school will hold students until parents can pick up their
student.
What if the Student Drove to School?
There may be instances where a student may not be allowed
to remove a vehicle from the parking lot. In this case, parents
are advised to recover the student. In some circumstances,
high school students may be released on their own.
Bring ID to Check In
During check in, identification and custody rights are
confirmed. From the “Check In” area parents are directed to
the “Reunification” area. Identification is presented again as
the child is being reunified.
Interviews and Counseling
In some cases, parents may be advised that a law
enforcement investigation is underway and may be advised
that interviews are necessary. Counseling may be available.

Reunificación de Estudiante y Padre
Cómo Funciona
Circunstancias pueden ocurrir en la escuela que requiera que
los padres recojan a sus estudiantes en una forma
formalizada, y controladamente. Este proceso para recoger a
su niño/a de la escuela se llama reunificación y puede ser
necesario debido al clima, corte de electricidad, materiales
peligrosos o si se presentará una crisis en la escuela. El
método estándar de reunificación es una formalidad o
protocolo que hace este proceso más predecible y menos
confuso para aquellos que están envueltos. La razón de
recoger a su niño de una manera controlada por la escuela es
porque no es la salida normal de todos los días, la
reunificación puede ocurrir en localizaciones diferentes en
vez de la escuela a la que asiste. Si esta localización es otra
escuela, entonces esos alumnos deben de ser sujetos a una
salida controlada también.
Para los estudiantes, la escuela les pedirá que se mantengan
en orden y en silencio mientras esperan por sus padres o
tutores. A los alumnos se les pedirá que no envíen otros
mensajes de texto dentro de la escuela, fuera de ella o en el
área de reunificación. Mantener la transmisión de los
celulares al mínimo puede ser importante.
Notificación
No llamen a los teléfonos de la escuela. No los contestaremos
mientras hacemos la re-unificación. A los padres se les
notificará de varias maneras. La escuela o el distrito pueden
usar para transmitir el teléfono o se les enviará un texto. En
un caso de emergencia, se les pedirá a los alumnos que
envíen un texto a sus padres. Un mensaje de texto para la
reunificación puede ser algo así. “La escuela se ha cerrado,
por favor recójanme a las 3:25 pm en la entrada principal,
traiga su identificación.”
Tarjetas de Reunificación
Para los padres, hay algunos pasos. Si un padre conduce a la
escuela, ponga más atención al tráfico y los vehículos de
emergencia. Los padres se deben de estacionar en las áreas
indicadas y no abandonar su vehículo. A los padres se les
pedirá que se reporten al área de “registro” y se formen en la
línea basada en la primera letra del apellido de su hijo.
Mientras que están en línea, a los padres se les pedirá que
llenen una tarjeta de reunificación. A los padres se les pide
que llenen todas las partes de la tarjeta.
En caso que se vaya a reunificar varios estudiantes con un
adulto se puede llenar una tarjeta si los niños tienen el mismo
apellido. Si no, tiene que llenar una otra tarjeta
Expectaciones de los Padres/Tutores
Si a los padres o guardianes/tutores se les notifica que hay
una salida controlada y una reunificación es necesaria, hay
algunas expectaciones que los padres o tutores deben de
estar conscientes: Primeramente, traer su identificación lo
cual simplificará la reunificación. Segundo, sea paciente,
reunificación es un proceso que protege tanto la seguridad
del estudiante y prevé un cambio responsable de la custodia
de la escuela a los padres o tutores con custodia reconocida.
¿Qué pasará, sí un padre no puede recoger a su
estudiante?
Cuando un padre no puede ir inmediatamente al lugar de
reunificación, al estudiante se le dejara ir solamente con su
contacto de emergencia registrado en la escuela. De otra
manera la escuela detendrá al alumno hasta que los padres
pueden recogerlo.
¿Y si el estudiante condujo a la escuela?
Puede haber casos donde no se le permita al alumno mover
el vehículo del estacionamiento. En este caso se les pedirá a
los padres que recojan al estudiante. En algunas
circunstancias, a los alumnos de la escuela preparatoria se les
dejara ir por su cuenta.
Traiga su Identificación Cuando se Presente
Durante la registración, se confirmará su identidad y sus
derechos de custodia. Del área de registración, a los padres
se les dirigirá al área de reunificación. Le muestra su
identificación otra vez cuando se reunifica con su
estudiante.
Entrevistas y Consejería
En algunos casos, los padres pueden ser informados de que
una investigación policial está en curso y se le aconsejará que
una entrevista de parte de él/ella será necesaria. En casos
extremos, los padres pueden ser llamados aparte por una
emergencia o información médica. Consejeros pueden estar
disponible.
