Weaving in Sacred Scriptures, the Word of God
We have started to deepen our understanding of the first word of the theme of our
Congregational Chapter: “Weavers”.

Do we know what is already in the Books of the Bible ? We have often chanted
Psalm 138(139) verse 13 :
“You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother's womb..”
Modern technology has enabled us to be filled with wonder when we see films
which trace the development of the child in its mother’s womb. This can help us,
by way of comparison, to marvel at the patience of God and all that he has done in
order to form us and become alive “in His own image and likeness.”
There are many other passages in the Bible from which we can draw all the
significance contained in the action of weaving and all the stages which bring
about the final textile. We can start with the cotton which is planted where we
gather the cotton balls or the sheep from which we gather the wool: all of
which are then transported, carded, spun, dyed, to the weaving loom built …
So much is done, even before the weaver takes the shuttle and sits down in
front of a weaving instrument of work. There is already a long a chain of
network of people and materials involved which we hardly take notice of when
we put on our clothing!
