Dear Parishioners;
This weekend we bring our Christmas Season
celebrations to a close with the Feast of the
Baptism of the Lord. This event marks Jesus’
transition from his hidden life to his public
ministry. We leave behind the stories of
Bethlehem, the shepherd and the Magi and begin
to hear about Jesus’ teachings his miracles and
the reaction of his disciples and the crowds. Our
Winter Ordinary Time (which begins on Monday)
will be very short this year because Easter is
early this year (March 27) so Lent begins early
as well.
I can relate to the movement from Jesus’ hidden
life to public ministry as I begin to move from my
convalescence back to part-time work. I am still
going to Physical Therapy and working on my left
shoulder and dealing with the aftermath of my
surgeries. It is good to be back saying Mass
again and going over to the office for some work.
Please be patient with me if I am delayed in
getting back to you, as I will not be in the office
full time just yet.
Now most importantly I want to say thank you.
Thank you for all your prayers and warm
thoughts. Thank you for your cards and letters.
Thank you for Mass Cards, fruit baskets and
flowers. Most especially thank you for the
wonderful welcome I have received as I came
back to St. Michael’s. Thank you to Fr. Sal who
took on all the Sacramental needs of the parish
in my absence. Thank you to the staff who did so
much to keep things working in this busy time of
year.
Also thank you for all the Christmas Cards and
gifts. They truly brightened my holidays! It felt
so good to get to say Mass on Christmas Day.
As we head into the New Year, let us continue to
grow in faith and charity.
Peace,
Fr. Chuck

Community Life
Welcome to St. Michael’s! If you are visiting with us this
weekend, or have been away from the Church for a while, we invite
you to become an active part of our parish community. Registration
forms may be found in the bulletin racks. Please fill one out and
return it to the Parish Office or drop it in the collection basket. We
encourage all to share fully in the life of the parish by being actively
involved in our ministries and being faithful stewards of time, talent
and treasure. Please prayerfully consider how God is calling you to
proclaim the Good News in our parish community. If you have a
change of address or phone number or are moving out of the
parish, please notify the Parish Office as soon as possible. Also,
when adult children turn 18, they should register under their own
names as soon as possible. If you are not Roman Catholic, please
know that you are most welcome. While we are unable to extend an
invitation to our non-Catholic brothers and sisters to receive Holy
Communion, please feel free to come forward at Communion time
and ask for a blessing.
Bienvenidos a San Miguel!

The Jubilee Year of Mercy
The Corporal Works of Mercy:
Harbor the
Homeless Home. It plays an important part in our
lives. Have you ever wondered where you were
going to sleep at night? There are nearly 100
million people in the world who have to ask that
question every day. Homelessness can take on
many forms. While we cannot always respond to every person
nor have the financial resources to meet those needs, we are
still capable of being part of the answer. Rarely we are actually
able to open our doors to someone who is homeless, but there
are ways that we can help with some of the things that make
up a home. . . putting canned goods into the bins in the
entrance of the Church and Chapel helps to provide regular
meals that we associate with “home” . . . donations or
volunteer help to shelters that are able provide housing . . .
offering housing a family member who needs care and can no
longer live independently . . . all are ways of making ourselves
aware of the needs of those who are homeless. Find a way this
week to be merciful to those who need our help. “Do not
neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have
entertained angels unawares.” Hebrews 13:2
