Third Sunday of Easter– Lk 24:13-35
That very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus’ disciples were
going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus, and
they were conversing about all the things that had occurred. And it
happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself
drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from
recognizing him. He asked them, “What are you discussing as you
walk along?” They stopped, looking downcast. One of them, named
Cleopas, said to him in reply, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem
who does not know of the things that have taken place there in these
days?” And he replied to them, “What sort of things?” They said to
him, “The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene, who was a
prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, how
our chief priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death
and crucified him. But we were hoping that he would be the one to
redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third day since this
took place. Some women from our group, however, have astounded us:
they were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body;
they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of
angels who announced that he was alive. Then some of those with us

went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described,
but him they did not see.” And he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you
are! How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke! Was it
not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into
his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he
interpreted to them what referred to him in all the Scriptures. As they
approached the village to which they were going, he gave the
impression that he was going on farther. But they urged him, “Stay
with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.” So he went
in to stay with them. And it happened that, while he was with them at
table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.
With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he
vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, “Were not our
hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened
the Scriptures to us?” So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem
where they found gathered together the eleven and those with them
who were saying, “The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to
Simon!” Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and
how he was made known to them in the breaking of bread.

Readings For Next Weekend
St. Peter speaks to us twice today. In the first reading, we hear an
excerpt from his sermon on Pentecost; in the second, part of his
first Letter. Once a frightened, uneducated fisherman who often
said just the wrong thing, now Peter is speaking what he knows
to be true. Everything Jesus had said now makes sense. His death
and rising were all part of God’s plan, and our faith and hope can
be centered on God. Today’s Gospel tells the story of Jesus’ walk
to Emmaus with two of the disciples. Frightened, sad, and
confused, the two don’t recognize Jesus, who tells them what we
heard Peter say above: all this had to happen as part of God’s
plan. In the end, these disciples recognize Jesus as we are to
recognize him—in the breaking of the bread.

O, Lord God of hosts, O God of our salvation, O God who alone workest wonders, do thou now
look down with mercy and compassion on thy humble servants and out of love for mankind
hearken and have mercy on us. Look with mercy, we pray thee, O Lord, on those of our sons
and daughters who now serve in our Armed Forces, and who in obedience to their superiors
have for our sakes placed themselves in harm’s way. Grant that those who request the
protection of thy right hand may be overpowered by no adverse force, and may the invited
defense of thy mighty power shield thy faithful sons and daughters. Watch over them, O Lord,
and bring them back safely to those who love them. Grant courage and steadfast faith to them
and to those who long for their return. Bring a quick and bloodless end to
these conflicts and spare the lives of the innocent. Grant no increase to the
numbers of widows and orphans and relieve the privations of the bereaved and wounded, whether wounded
in body or in soul. Restore peace in our day, O Lord, that thy truth may go forth unhindered, for Thou, O Lord,
art the Prince of Peace and art ever-glorified with thine unoriginate Father and the all-holy, good, and lifegiving Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Mayo Mes de María
LIMA, 01 May. 14 / 12:03 am (ACI).- Mayo es el mes que la
Iglesia Universal dedica a la Madre de Dios, la
Bienaventurada Virgen María. Este tiempo es una oportunidad
para renovar el amor de todos los bautizados hacia la Mujer
que Dios desde la eternidad escogió para nacer y dejarse
cuidar por Ella.
La Santísima Virgen María es por siempre la Reina del Cielo
y de la Tierra, no hay santidad sin María porque toda Ella
lleva a Cristo.
María la más humilde entre las mujeres es precisamente el
modelo de toda mujer, como señaló hace poco el Papa Francisco en su video mensaje a más de 20
mil jóvenes reunidos en Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Este mes en la intención de evangelización del Papa Francisco menciona “para que María, Estrella
de la Evangelización, guíe la misión de la Iglesia de anunciar a Cristo a todos los pueblos''.

Evangelio de la Semana
Lucas 24:13-35
Dos discípulos de Jesús iban andando aquel mismo día, el
primero de la semana, a una aldea llamada Emaús, distante unas
dos leguas de Jerusalén; iban comentando todo lo que había
sucedido. Mientras conversaban y discutían, Jesús en persona se
acercó y se puso a caminar con ellos. Pero sus ojos no eran
capaces de reconocerlo.
Él les dijo: -« ¿Qué conversación es esa que traéis mientras vais
de camino? »Ellos se detuvieron preocupados. Y uno de ellos,
que se llamaba Cleofás, le replicó: -«¿Eres tú el único forastero
en Jerusalén, que no sabes lo que ha pasado allí estos días?»Él les
preguntó: -«¿Qué?»Ellos le contestaron: -«Lo de Jesús, el
Nazareno, que fue un profeta poderoso en obras y palabras, ante
Dios y ante todo el pueblo; cómo lo entregaron los sumos
sacerdotes y nuestros jefes para que lo condenaran a muerte, y lo
crucificaron. Nosotros esperábamos que él fuera el futuro
liberador de Israel. Y ya ves: hace dos días que sucedió esto. Es
verdad que algunas mujeres de nuestro grupo nos han
sobresaltado: pues fueron muy de mañana al sepulcro, no
encontraron su cuerpo, e incluso vinieron diciendo que habían
visto una aparición de ángeles, que les habían dicho que estaba
vivo. Algunos de los nuestros fueron también al sepulcro y lo
encontraron como habían dicho las mujeres; pero a él no lo
vieron.»Entonces Jesús les dijo: -« ¡Qué necios y torpes sois para
creer lo que anunciaron los profetas! ¿No era necesario que el
Mesías padeciera esto para entrar en su gloria?»Y, comenzando
por Moisés y siguiendo por los profetas, les explicó lo que se
refería a él en toda la Escritura.Ya cerca de la aldea donde iban,
él hizo ademán de seguir adelante; pero ellos le apremiaron,
diciendo: -«Quédate con nosotros, porque atardece y el día va de
caída.»Y entró para quedarse con ellos. Sentado a la mesa con
ellos, tomó el pan, pronunció la bendición, lo partió y se lo dio. A
ellos se les abrieron los ojos y lo reconocieron. Pero él
desapareció.Ellos comentaron: -«¿No ardía nuestro corazón
mientras nos hablaba por el camino y nos explicaba las
Escrituras?»Y, levantándose al momento, se volvieron a
Jerusalén, donde encontraron reunidos a los Once con sus
compañeros, que estaban diciendo: - «Era verdad, ha resucitado
el Señor y se ha aparecido a Simón.»Y ellos contaron lo que les
había pasado por el camino y cómo lo habían reconocido al partir
el pan.
Palabra del Señor.
Reflexión Dominical
San Pedro nos habla dos veces hoy. En la primera
lectura, escuchamos una parte de su sermón el día de
Pentecostés; en la segunda, parte de su primera carta. Antes,
un pescador asustado y sin mucha educación que a menudo
decía lo que no debía, ahora dice lo que él sabe es la verdad.
Todo lo que Jesús había dicho ahora tiene sentido. Su
muerte y resurrección eran parte del plan de Dios y nuestra
fe y esperanza se pueden centrar en Dios.
El Evangelio de hoy nos relata la historia de la
caminata de Jesús hacia Emaús con dos de los discípulos.
Asustados, tristes y confusos, ninguno de los dos reconoció
a Jesús, quien les dice lo mismo que escuchamos de Pedro
en la lectura anterior: todo eso sucedió como parte del plan
de Dios. Al final, los discípulos reconocieron a Jesús por la misma acción que
nosotros debemos reconocerlo— al partir el Pan.
