FROM THE PASTOR
Moses said to God, “But when I go to the Israelites
and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to
you,’ if they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what am I to tell
them?” God replied, “I am who am.” Then he added, “This
is what you shall tell the Israelites: I AM sent me to you.”
The interchange above comes from the Book of
Exodus and is part of our first reading today (except for the
10:00 am Mass with the RCIA candidates and elect). In it
Moses has just seen the burning bush from which the Lord
speaks. The Lord tells Moses to go to the Israelites and let
them know that he will deliver them from slavery under
Pharaoh in Egypt. Up ‘till now, Moses did not know the
name of God and here we get a very interesting play on
words which leads to a greater understanding of the mystery
of God’s relationship with Man.
After hearing that the Lord wants Moses to go to
Pharaoh, Moses asks, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” God’s response?
“I AM WHO AM”. Do you see the juxtaposition of words?
Moses rightly doubts his own power and authority. In a
sense the Lord is telling Moses, “Hey pal, it’s not about you.
It’s about me and my people! On your own you couldn’t
deliver the Israelites but I can because I AM.”
Too often we rely on our own strength and initiative
in life. Of ourselves we have very little power, in fact, no
power at all when it comes to salvation. We cannot save or
redeem ourselves. For those who do not seek the Lord this
can be a source of great frustration. “Why can’t I get things
to work out the way I want?” The Lord, however, has power
to do all things. He can bring salvation to any who call upon
Him. I AM (YHWH) can heal our sickness, raise the dead,
provide for every need, and make all things new.
The second thing we might learn from this passage
and the name of God is this: His name is I AM, not I WAS,
nor I WILL BE. It is not in the past that we know Him, nor
will we encounter Him in the future. It is only in the present
moment that we have contact with God. This is most important for us to understand. It is at this very moment, and only
at this moment, that a relationship with God is possible. He
is here and surrounds us at the present moment no matter
where we are. This should bring us great comfort to know
that He is always with me, today, here and now. Please don’t
wait for tomorrow to make your peace with God. He is only
to be found right here and right now.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE:
As you may remember we normally begin asking
for pledges to the Annual Catholic Appeal this time of year.
For the next three years, however, you may recall hearing at
one of our Capital Campaign receptions that we’ll be combining our Capital Campaign along with the Annual Catholic Appeal. Rather than having two separate pledge drives
at the same time we’ve combined the two to make things a
little easier.
If you have not made a pledge to our Capital Campaign for the new pre-school and other parish improvements, like new bathrooms in the church, please do so today. Simply fill out one of the pledge envelopes in the pews
and drop it in the collection basket or the parish office. So
far 293 families have pledged more than $825,000! Well
done! We are still lacking pledges from the 2000 other
families in the parish so please prayerfully consider making
a pledge today.
Remember to set your clock
1 hour ahead
next Saturday night.
Daylight Savings time
begins on Sunday, March 10th.

Tercer Domingo de Cuaresma
DEL PASTOR
Moisés le dijo a Dios:, "Esta bien. Me presentare a
‘Yo-soy me envía a ustedes".
