Install programmable thermostats to turn
down temperature automatically.
Change or clean heating filter monthly
during heating season.
Tip: Use monthly gas bill as a reminder.
Check for and eliminate leaks in duct
work. Leaks can usually
be repaired easily and
inexpensively with duct
tape available at most
hardware stores.
Call Before You Dig
In 2013, SCG responded to 101 reports of third-party damage to natural gas lines. Many of
these could have been avoided if customers and contractors had contacted the Call Before
You Dig hotline first.
Call Before You Dig is required by law. Simply dial 811 and allow a minimum of two working
days before beginning an outdoor excavation project.
Making this simple call allows our company and other utilities to mark out their facilities in
the area where you or your contractor are working. This one call can help prevent injuries
and damage to underground facilities. Failure to comply may cause an accident and result
in legal penalties.
Remember, too, that when working near natural gas lines, you must use hand tools — and
insist that your contractor does, as well. If you’re planning any project that requires digging
this spring, be sure you and/or your contractor dial 811. Make it a habit. For more information,

UIL’s Employee Volunteer Council hosted its first bowl-a-thon to benefit Junior
Achievement of Western Connecticut and Southwest New England. On March 30,
UIL employees across all operating companies including SCG raised funds and came
out to Milford’s AMF Bowling Lane and bowled to support the Junior Achievement
chapters programs that serve children and teenagers in our state.
Junior Achievement is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to educate and
inspire young people to value free enterprise, and understand business and economics
to improve the quality of their lives. In the 2012-2013 school year, the organization
reached more than 57,000 students in Connecticut. The programs are offered to
students from K-12 and are made possible because of the dedicated volunteers who
facilitate these programs in local schools.

Instale termostatos programables para

El Consejo de empleados voluntarios de UIL presentó su primera Maratón de bolos a
fin de colaborar con Junior Achievement de Connecticut occidental y el sudoeste de
Nueva Inglaterra. El 30 de marzo, empleados de UIL a través de todas las empresas
operativas, incluida SCG, recaudaron fondos y asistieron a AMF Bowling Lane en Milford
