Parent resources at “420 Remix — A Celebration of Sober and Drug Free Life Choices” event
YOUR INVOLVEMENT IS KEY!
Dear Parent or Guardian:
More San Diego County youth enter treatment programs for marijuana use than for all other drugs combined, yet less
than half of parents are aware of their child’s drug use. Parents have enormous influence on their teens’ behavior –
parents’ disapproval of youth alcohol and/or drug use is a key reason children choose not to drink or do drugs.
This year, we are proud to partner with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for the Parent Resource Area of our
420 Remix event to help parents start effective conversations to prevent alcohol and drug use. Middle school is a
critical time—according to student surveys, less than 10% of 7th graders report using alcohol or other drugs. This
jumps to 15 to 25% for high school grades, but doesn’t have to! In our Parent Resource Area, you will be able to talk
with professionals in parenting, discipline, and substance abuse between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. to learn strategies that can
help you guide your adolescent towards positive choices.
MADD representatives will be providing ‘Power of Parents’ presentations in English and
Spanish from 5 to 5:30 PM in the Kidopolis area at Boomers!
The North Coastal Prevention Coalition (NCPC) is determined to counter the mainstream “pot smoking holiday” of
April 20th and instead “remix” the day into a celebration of sober and drug free life choices. Most teens are familiar
with the popular marijuana reference of 4/20 (pronounced ‘four-twenty’), but many parents are not. If you’d like

Estimado Padre o Tutor:
En el Condado de San Diego, cada vez es más grande el número de jóvenes que ingresa a los centros de tratamiento por el uso de
la marihuana que el número total de ingreso por todas las otras drogas. Sin embargo, menos de la mitad de los padres saben que sus
hijos usan drogas. Los padres tienen una influencia enorme en el comportamiento de sus hijos, la desaprobación de los padres del
uso de alcohol y otras drogas es la clave para que los hijos decidan no consumir alcohol ni drogas.
Este año tendremos el honor de tener a Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) en el área de padres, para ayudar a los padres a
comenzar una conversación efectiva con sus hijos y prevenirlos del uso del alcohol y otras drogas. La secundaria puede ser un
tiempo critica y dificultoso para muchos jóvenes. De acuerdo a una encuesta de estudiantes, menos del 10% de los estudiantes del
7º reportaron haber usado alcohol y otras drogas. Esto cambia de 15% a 25% para los años de la preparatoria, pero no debería ser
así. En nuestra área para padres, usted podrá hablar con nuestros expertos en crianza, disciplina, y abuso de sustancias entre las 4 y
6 de la tarde, para aprender estrategias que le ayudaran a guiar a su hijo a tomar decisiones positivas en su vida.
Los Representantes de MADD estarán ofreciendo talleres, El Poder de los Padres, en ingles y español de
5:00 a 5:30PM en el Kidopolis

fumar marihuana” y retomarlo para celebrar una vida sobria y libre de drogas. La mayoría de los adolescentes están familiarizados
