AUTUMN HAS ARRIVED, Miss Sole, teacher English 5 years
Autumn has arrived to Fontenebro Junior school!! For this reason we are decorating our
classes and the entire school with autumn crafts. We are painting leaves, trees, acorns and
apples and we might even do our own harvest festival.
This October brings lots of new things to learn and do!

OCTOBER, Miss Olga, teacher English 4 years
I am looking forward to beginning a new year with my four year old class and to forming
positive relationships with the children and their parents.
I hope that the children within my class will feel safe, comfortable and happy in their
school environment. I will strive to create and feed their desire to learn by carefully
selecting and planning new and exciting learning experiences for them to enjoy.
Through play, the kids will learn to explore the world around them, ask questions, extend
their skills, develop their confidence and build on what they already know.
My class is full of lovely and kind children. On my first day at Laude Fontenebro School, one
child asked me ”Who is the best teacher?” Then he said ”You are”.
The kids are an active class, but they display a keen interest in learning English. They ask
for new vocabulary and often ask questions to ensure that they have understood what I am
teaching them or asking them to do.

AUTUMN DECORATION, Miss Patricia, 1º EPO
As Autumn is here, students from year 1 of Primary
Education, have been decorating their classrooms with
Autumn themes.
For this reason, they have been doing Autumn poems
and colouring pictures like leaves, mushrooms, squirrels
and owls. Moreover, they enjoyed a lot all the activities
and the classes ended up looking great, like nature
itself! Finally, working in teams, everyone contributes
doing their best.

Nos dieron una gran sorpresa
cuando nos dijeron que íbamos a
ir a los laboratorios donde
estudian los mayores.
Subimos todos juntos 1ºA y 1ºB
con nuestras tutoras y allí nos
esperaba un profe de secundaria,
Fernando, con su ayudante Nacho.
Hicieron una multitud de
experimentos, nos enseñaron
animales disecados, miramos por
el microscópico....
Nos sentimos muy muy mayores
por un ratito. Todos juntos nos
hicimos una foto para recordar
este gran momento.

BIBLIOTECA, Ana I. Esteban y Mónica Herranz, tutoras de 1º EPO
Os queremos contar que ya hemos ido por primera vez con nuestras tutoras Ana y Mónica a
la biblioteca. Todos los alumnos de primaria vamos a ir a leer allí dos veces por
semana.
Lo pasamos fenomenal, escuchando el cuento que nos leyeron, reflexionando sobre él y
contestando a las preguntitas que nos hicieron.
Para terminar y relajarnos escuchamos música y nos tumbamos en la alfombra.
Una experiencia positiva que repetiremos todas las semanas.

CLASS TRIP TO CAIXA FORUM AND THE ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDEN,
Libertad Campo Periago y Patricia Romero Soriano, 5º y 6º EPO
On Wednesday 22nd of October, classes 5ºA and
5ºB and on Thursday 23rd October sixth grade
visited an exposition called ¨Inventos, Ideas
que cambian vidas¨ at Caixa Forum Madrid.
Our children marveled at the inventions that have
been changing the life of the people in 3rd world
countries in many different ways: work,
education, nutrition, etc. using creativity and the
means at their disposal.
That same day, we took a nice walk through The
Royal Botanical Garden, a great experience,
with an amazing day, reaching 26 degrees
Celsius! The children enjoyed looking at different
plants: flowers, bushes, trees… from many places
of the world and applying what they have been
learning at our school, like counting the age of a tree!
PUBLIC SPEAKING, Virginia Pérez Casas, Year 1 and 2
The students in Year 1 and 2 are enjoying our Public Speaking lessons showing our
classmates special things we have in our house. Each one of us brings something we want
to show and we speak about it. Most of us bring special toys we like to play with, teddies
we sleep with, or things we have bought in our trips around the world. We like it so much
that some of us want to repeat the experience and bring more things to show. This
is a good way of getting used to speaking in English for a group of people, learning new
words and finding out things about our classmates.

DRAMA, Virginia Pérez Casas, EPO
The primary students are really enjoying drama lessons. In this first month and a half we
have had time to play many drama games, do some improvisations, which we love to do,
practice our Halloween songs, and relax at the end of each lesson playing “sleeping lions”.
It has been a great experience!
RETOS MATEMÁTICOS, Carmen Hormiga y Ana Siguero, 1º ESO
Este curso, en las clases de Primero de
Secundaria hemos creado el espacio "nuestras
Matemáticas". En ese espacio del corcho, las
profesoras vamos a colocar algunos RETOS
MATEMÁTICOS que los alumnos pueden
resolver en un cierto espacio de tiempo.
Podrán intentarlo individuamente, en grupos,
en casa...
Vamos a valorar las respuestas dadas por cada
uno de los alumnos, pero se valorará mucho más:
- la curiosidad,
- el interés por participar,
- el interés por dedicar tiempo a pensar y a razonar
- la ilusión por intentar buscar opciones, alternativas, razonamientos y demostraciones
- el interés por buscar información relacionada con los retos...
También les iremos colgando noticias, chistes y diferentes curiosidades relacionadas con las
Matemáticas que queremos que comenten e investiguen.
Esperamos que esto fomente, el interés de nuestros alumnos, por diferentes aspectos de
las Matemáticas y del conocimiento científico, tan importante en su evolución académica y
personal.
SALIDA POSADA ROMANA Y TELÉGRAFO, María José Moyano, 4º ESO
El viernes 10 de octubre 4º de la ESO realizó una
salida con la Fundación Sierra Guadarrama muy
interesante ya que complementaba humanidades y
ciencias.
Primero fuimos a visitar una “Posada Romana” en
Collado Mediano que curiosamente es la única que
queda en toda España, donde personal del
ayuntamiento
nos
explicó
el
centro
de
interpretación (modo de vida, el por qué de la
importancia de las posadas romanas durante el
Imperio; y los restos arqueológicos que se siguen
encontrando en la zona.

Para esta primera visita los alumnos han
realizado un proyecto de investigación sobre
Roma (cultura, sociedad, arte, mitología etc.)
que expondrán a cursos de diversos niveles en
el colegio).
Posteriormente
subimos
al
monte
del
Telégrafo, donde el mismo personal del
ayuntamiento nos explicó el
complejo
funcionamiento de mensajes que empezó
durante el reinado de Isabel II en la segunda
mitad del siglo XIX de uso exclusivamente
militar.
Subimos a la torre desde donde pudimos observar las líneas telegráficas más importantes.
Fue una excursión muy interesante, acompañada de un día espléndido y una intensa
actividad física que nos vino muy bien a todos.
REAPERTURA DE NUESTRA BIBLIOTECA,
Marian del Río, Responsable de Biblioteca
La biblioteca ha dado un cambio de aires y desde allí estamos promoviendo actividades
para incentivar la lectura. Los alumnos han comenzado a venir y disfrutar de su hora de
lectura en un ambiente cálido y relajado. Están aprendiendo qué hay que tener en
cuenta a la hora de buscar un libro y qué sorpresas nos puede deparar el simple título de
uno de ellos. Actividades como contarles un cuento y favorecer después su comprensión a
través de juegos, dramatizaciones, etc., es una manera de acercarles al mágico mundo que
esconden los libros.
Además, y para conmemorar el Día Internacional de las Bibliotecas el 24 de Octubre, nos
acompañaron algunas familias y profesorado en las Tertulias Literarias con café, donde
expusimos nuestras opiniones tras la lectura del libro propuesto, enriqueciéndonos y
cultivando cultura.
Las tertulias literarias son el último viernes
de cada mes de 9 a 10. ¡Os esperamos en la próxima!

YOUNG BUSINESS TALENTS, Bachillerato
Con el objetivo de acercar a nuestros alumnos de Bachillerato a una educación cada vez
más práctica y cercana al mundo real en el que se mueven, se repite en este curso la
experiencia de años anteriores de inscribirles en un simulador empresarial, Young
Business Talents, que les permitirá competir y demostrar sus habilidades con alumnos del
resto de España, en este concurso organizado por Nívea y Esic.
El simulador empresarial consigue la aplicación
práctica de todos los contenidos teóricos que se
ven en el aula. El objetivo es sencillo: eres el
responsable de una empresa, debes tomar
todas las decisiones sobre la misma (precios,
cantidades, salarios...) y de lo buenas que sean
estas, dependerán tus resultados...y los de tus
competidores.
En grupos de 3 o 4 alumnos, se tienen que
poner de acuerdo, valorar alternativas, llegar a
soluciones y de esta forma ir sumando puntos
hasta llegar a una final nacional.
En la edición anterior, uno de los equipos representante del Centro (formado por Eduardo
de Moreta, Juan Alberto Pardos y Natalia Sanz) llegó hasta dicha final, celebrada en
Madrid, viviendo una experiencia inolvidable con los 100 mejores equipos de toda España,
de entre los más de 5750 alumnos que empezaron el concurso.

A PASSAGE TO INDIA, Blanca la Cruz and Andrea García, 1º
Bachillerato
Our last English assignment has been dedicated to
the novel A Passage to India by the author
Edward Morgan Foster.
Our teacher considered it convenient for us to know a
little bit about the context in which the story takes
place: India. The class was divided into groups.
Each group was specialised in a certain area: culture,
society, languages and colonialism. We made some
research and carried out presentations on our newly
acquired knowledge.
Once all the presentations had been done, we evaluated ourselves in order to understand
the difficulties our teacher has to deal with when giving a mark.
Later on, Ofelia handed us a few questions to check that we fully understood the
projects. We discussed the topic in a colloquial manner.
After this, we began reading. Being only a chapter into the book, we could already see the
colours of the landscape, feel the stench of the streets and hear the voices of the people
that inhabited India only a few centuries ago.
