Una introducción al pretérito
I.
Review: Before we move on to our next verb tense, let’s review the verb
conjugations we already know. The verbs that you have used up until this
point have been in the present tense. These verbs tell what is happening in the
present day and time.
EJEMPLO: Estudio matemáticas.  I study math.
The present tense verb endings are as follows:
-ar
-er

-ir
El pretérito: In Spanish, in order to talk about events that happened in the
past, we use the past tense which is known as the preterit tense.
EJEMPLO: “Estudié matemáticas” means “I studied math”.
The preterit tense has different verb endings:
-ar
-er
-ir
**Fortunately, -er and –ir preterit verbs have the same verb endings**
**In order to be successful you must memorize the preterit endings**
