Our human reality is always viewed from two angles:
the center and the periphery. Both angles carried out a deep
understanding of how human being sees things and reacts when
we approach the history. Christianity is not exempt from that
deep understanding to the point some figures like the Apostles
represents not by meaning or definition but by virtue of ministry
caring out these angles. The feast of Saint Peter and Paul we are
celebrating today is a perfect example of this unique reality.
Both of them are companions and spiritual brothers and well
known through the tradition as founding pillars of the church.
Without any inwardly perception of competition, Peter is being
identified always as the rock, the steady one at the center and in
fact the great leader of the Judeo-Christian movement in
Jerusalem, Antioch and Rome. Meanwhile Paul himself is the
one being seen and sent at the peripheries to bring the message
of salvation to the gentiles and marginalized people outside of
the well known places.
These are two perfect examples for us in our
desperation to understand our own spiritual life’s mobility. In
Mathew Gospel we heard Jesus saying to Peter: “you are Peter
and upon this rock I will build my Church (Mt 16:18)”. This
genuine revelation echoed Jesus desires to entrust into human
hands and guided by the Holy Spirit the continuity of his
ministry. His choice of Peter was not based on his ability or his
capacity to lead rather on this moment where Peter is being fully
absorbed by the Holy Spirit. There are those moments in our
lives where we are fully and totally vested by the power of the
Holy Spirit, moments when our own confession about Jesus like
Peter can be our ultimate conviction. Those moments are real
and being known as spiritual experience allows us to grasp the
most intimate reality of our call to be Christian and Followers of
Jesus. At the other hand, we have to be honest with ourselves
also because very often we have fallen into fear that can
ultimately turns the rock into a tempter like we have seen in
Peter’s experience. Talking about that Pope Benedict wrote:
“Peter, names Jesus the Christ in particular
revelation, that is, while living close to God, while feeling the
Spirit move through him. In that moment Simon truly was Peter,
he was a rock because he was the one who had shown the ability
to trust that what he had experienced in Jesus was true, that the
living God was a God of mercy, a God who looked and acted
like Jesus. And then, five verses later, he falls back into fear and
so tries to prevent the one in whom he has experienced the
living God from continuing to listen to that God. It is this
attempt to prevent Jesus from being himself and from accepting
the consequences of being himself that turns the rock into a
tempter”.
How often we have been cut off in our experience not
being able to be the rock or present at the peripheries to witness
the love of Christ. Today we pray that truly understand that
following the voice of Jesus means to be the rock and stand at
the peripheries to be the voice of the marginalized and those
who are desperate and searching for meanings.
Nuestra realidad humana siempre es vista desde dos
ángulos: el centro y la periferia. Ambos ángulos llevaron a cabo una
profunda comprensión de cómo el ser humano ve las cosas y
reacciona cuando nos acercamos a la historia. El cristianismo no está
exento de esa profunda comprensión al punto que algunas figuras
como los Apóstoles representan no por el significado o la definición,
sino por la virtud del ministerio llevando en estos ángulos. La fiesta
de San Pedro y San Pablo que estamos celebrando hoy es un ejemplo
perfecto de esta realidad. Ambos son compañeros y hermanos
espirituales y bien conocidos por la tradición como pilares fundadores
de la iglesia. Sin ningún tipo de percepción dentro de la competencia,
Pedro se identifica siempre como la roca, la que mantuvo en el centro
y, de hecho, el gran líder del movimiento Judea-cristiana de Jerusalén,
Antioquía y Roma. Mientras tanto Pablo mismo es el que ha sido
visto y enviado en las periferias llevando el mensaje de salvación a
los gentiles y personas marginalizadas que vivan fuera de los lugares
conocidos.
Pedro y Pablo son dos ejemplos perfectos para nosotros en
nuestra desesperación por entender nuestra propia movilidad de
nuestra vida espiritual. En el Evangelio de San Mateo escuchamos a
Jesús diciendo a Pedro: "Tú eres Pedro y sobre esta piedra edificaré
mi Iglesia (Mt 16,18)". Esta revelación genuina hizo eco del deseo de
Jesús de confiar en las manos del hombre y guiada por el Espíritu
Santo, la continuidad de su ministerio. Su elección de Pedro no se
basó en su habilidad o en su capacidad para dirigir sino en este
momento en el cual que Pedro se dejo absorber completamente por el
Espíritu Santo. Hay algunos momentos en nuestras vidas donde
estamos completamente y totalmente sumergida por el poder del
Espíritu Santo, momentos en los que nuestra propia confesión de
Jesús como Pedro puede ser nuestra convicción definitiva. Estos
momentos son reales y se conocen como experiencia espiritual y nos
permiten captar la realidad más íntima de nuestra llamada de ser
cristianos y seguidores de Jesús. En el otro lado, tenemos que ser
honestos también con nosotros mismos porque a veces hemos caído
en el temor de que en última instancia puede hacernos pasar de roca
en tentador como lo hemos visto en la experiencia de Pedro en el
Evangelio de Mateo. Hablando de eso el Papa Benedicto escribió:
“Pedro, dijo que Jesús es, el Cristo, en una revelación
particular, es decir, cuando vivía cerca de Dios, mientras se siente el
movimiento Espíritu a través de él. En ese momento Simón realmente
era Pero, él era una roca, porque él era el que había demostrado la
capacidad de confiar en que lo que había experimentado en Jesús era
verdad, que el Dios viviente era un Dios de misericordia, un Dios que
parecía y actuaba como Jesús. Y luego, cinco versículos después,
vuelve a caer en el miedo y así trata de evitar que el de los que ha
experimentado el Dios vivo de seguir escuchando a ese Dios. Es este
intento de impedirle a Jesús de ser él mismo y aceptar las
consecuencias de ser sí mismo que cambio la roca en un tentador”.
¿Con qué frecuencia hemos sido separados en nuestra
experiencia por no poder ser la roca o estar presente en las periferias
para testimoniar el amor de Cristo. Hoy te rogamos para entender
verdaderamente que, seguir la voz de Jesús significa ser la roca y
situarse en las periferias para ser la voz de los marginalizados y los
que están desesperados buscando algunos significados

PEREGRINACIÓN A LA ERMITA DE LA CARIDAD
La peregrinación anual a la Ermita de la Caridad del Cobre en Miami está fijada para el
sábado, 16 de agosto, 2014. La salida del parqueo de Santa Juliana será a las 9:00 a.m. en autobús
(la cafería estará abierta desde las 8:00 a.m.) y el regreso a las 5:30 p.m. Habrá confesiones
durante el día. El Santo Rosario meditado se rezará a las 11:00 a.m., almuerzo a las 12:30 p.m. y
la Santa Misa se celebrará a las 3:00 p.m. El regreso hacia West Palm Beach será inmediatamente
después de la Misa.
El costo de la peregrinación es de $24.00 por asiento que incluye el viaje y el almuerzo al
pasajero. Los asientos están limitados, por favor, reserven sus pasajes a tiempo. El último día para
pagar es el domingo 10 de agosto, y para cancelar el martes, 12 de agosto, después de ese día no
