His statue is everywhere, his name is always mentioned at the Eucharistic prayer, and the parish is staffed by men and women of the communities he established, the Missionaries of the Company of Mary and the Daughters of Wisdom. The spirit and life of this poor saint fills the life of our parish in so many ways: from the way we treat each other to the commitment we have to the poor and the down trodden; the way we are committed to educating our children; and in how we pray together. We are truly open to Jesus Christ. This Thursday, April 28th will be the 300th Anniversary of his death. We will mark his feast day with Mass at 8:45 AM in Church with our school children. We are all invited to hear again the words Montfort preached so often: “To know Jesus Christ the eternal wisdom of God is to know enough; to know everything and not know Him is to know nothing.” Through the intercession of the Blessed Mother and St. Louis de Montfort, may we trust more and more in the loving providence of God. APRIL 24, 2016 ST. MARY GATE OF HEAVEN CHURCH The Cornerstone A place to share knowledge and communicate activities among the Deanery parishes. Beginning in May, “The Cornerstone” will be published monthly. Here you will find information of prayer services, ministry events, and notable happenings of each of the Deanery parishes. We hope this will provide more opportunities to get involved and grow in Faith, personally and as a Catholic community. What is a Deanery? A Deanery is a grouping of neighboring parishes of a diocese. The purpose of this grouping is to encourage knowledge, communication and activity among the member churches. PAGE 3 TRUE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Can you imagine a world such as the one put before us in today’s scripture readings? Communities of believers everywhere would support and encourage one another and be identified as Christians by the way they love each other. It would be a world with no tears, no death and mourning, no crying out in pain. “Behold, I make all things new,” we hear the Son of God say in the second reading from the book of Revelation (21:5). Is this world of John’s vision only imaginary? Are these faithful followers for whom Jesus prayed only a savior’s dream? Today they are put before us as a worthy goal. How much closer can we come to this vision of a true Christian. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. They bring God’s word to life at Mass, as they proclaim the Scriptures and sometimes lead the Prayers of the Faithful. Ministers of the Word devote time to preparing and reflecting on the readings in advance so they may be proclaimed with familiarity, reverence and love. Our parish is now seeking Ministers of the Word candidates. A candidate must be a baptized member of the parish, at least 16 years old, who has received Confirmation and regularly attends Mass. If you are interested, please call the rectory and leave your name, telephone number or email address. You will be contacted regarding practice sessions. MARY GATE OF HEAVEN 6TH ANNUAL MULTI-CULTURAL DAY A couple of hundred people gathered for the 6th Annual Multi-Cultural Day on April 9th to experience the diversity of the cultures that make up our parish. 15 countries were represented at Mass and parishioners from 13 countries made their culinary offering. Parishioners entertained us with native dances, music, poetry and songs. We thank the Multi-Cultural Day Committee for making this day of unity possible. We also thank the SMGH Boy Scouts who were helping everyone with different tasks and serving refreshments. A wonderful time was had by all!!! Many more pictures on SMGH facebook. We rejoice in You, O God, in whose image we are brothers and sisters and by whose example in Jesus Christ we know the breadth and depth of Your universal love.
