Re: September Sixth Form Induction Weekend
Your son/daughter has successfully entered the Sixth Form (S5/S6) at Canterbury School. The Sixth Form is
beyond compulsory education and is principally in place to assist your son/daughter to gain accession into
Higher Education establishments; albeit a University or a vocational training institution.
All students in S5 will begin Advanced Subsidiary (AS-Level) courses, which will lead to Advanced (A-Level)
courses in S6. These are high-level, demanding, academic qualifications that require a different approach to
study from traditional IGCSEs. Students will be required to conduct private and independent study and
become critically analytical in their academic work. Students will also be required to demonstrate
considerable amounts of teamwork, collaboration and cooperation in order to achieve at this level.
As part of Canterbury School’s commitment to smooth the transition from IGCSE to AS-Level study, and to
enhance the possibilities and opportunities available to your son/daughter, we have developed a Sixth Form
induction programme. The induction programme will take place immediately after school from 1600hrs

Friday 23 September until 1300hrs Saturday 24 September and is it essential that all S5 students
attend.
The induction programme will cost 20€ per student. Please hand payment in cash (not cheque), along with

Su hijo/a ha accedido a los estudios de Bachillerato en el colegio Canterbury. Esta etapa educativa lleva al
acceso a la educación superior, hacia la universidad o hacia los módulos de grado superior.
Todos los alumnos de S5 comienzan cursos avanzados (AS) que llevarán a los A levels en S6. Son cursos
exigentes, de alto nivel, que requieren de un enfoque diferente al de los IGCSE. Se espera de los alumnos
mucho más estudio independiente así como juicio crítico en el trabajo académico. Además, los alumnos
deberán mostrar su capacidad de trabajo en equipo.
Como parte del compromiso del colegio Canterbury para hacer más suave la transición de la E.S.O. al
Bachillerato, hemos desarrollado un programa de inmersión al Bachillerato. Este programa tendrá lugar
desde las 16.00 horas del viernes 23 de septiembre hasta las 13.00 horas del sábado 24 de
septiembre, y se espera que todos los alumnos asistan.
El coste de esta actividad es de 20 euros por alumno. Por favor adjunten el importe en metálico (cheques
no, por favor) junto con el acuse de recibo, y entréguenlo en la oficina del colegio antes del miércoles 14
de septiembre.
