MASS COMPORTMENT
As a courtesy, when you come to
mass please refrain from chewing
gum, eating or drinking in the
Church. While the fellowship we
share in the Church is important,
before the masses please try to be
as quiet as possible as many prepare for the mass in prayer before
the Blessed Sacrament.
Families with infants or toddlers
are asked to please make use of our
“Cry Room” in particular when
your children may get a little antsy.
This room was created to meet
your specific needs and when
properly used can help avoid distractions to the Celebrant and the
worshiping community. This room
was configured in a manner to
allow you and your family to fully
participate in the mass and not as a
means of exclusion. If you have
any questions, concerns or suggestions, please feel free to visit our
parish office or speak to the Pastor
directly. We want to make Holy
Cross a place of welcome and a
special place for all of our parishioners.
While the mass is going on, please
be active participants by responding to the prayers and joining in
song. We are called to be active
participants in the mass.
COMPORTAMIENTO
DURANTE LA MISA
Como una cortesía, cuando vienen
a celebrar la misa, favor de no
masticar chicle, comer o beber en
la Iglesia. Sabemos que la convivencia es importante, pero antes de
la misa favor de mantenerse en
silencio lo más posibles para darle
la oportunidad a aquellos que desean un lugar donde pueden orar.
Pedimos que familias con hijos
recién nacidos o pequeños usen el
cuarto de niños. Este cuarto fue
construida para crear un lugar
especialmente para familias con
hijos para que pueden participar en
la misa y no ser excluida pero a la
misa vez para evitar que el celebrante o otros feligreses sean distraídos durante la misa por medio
de un niño ser niño.
SI tienen preocupaciones, preguntas o sugerencias, favor de comunicarse con nuestro párroco o visitar
nuestra oficina parroquial. Deseamos que nuestra parroquia sea un
lugar de bienvenida y un lugar
especial para todos nuestros feligreses.

TODAY’S READINGS

LOS DE ADENTRO Y LOS DE AFUE
OUTSIDERS AND INSIDERS
Desde el Concilio Vaticano II a los católicos se les
ha orientado hacia una conciencia más profunda al llamado universal a la santidad arraigada en el bautismo. Sabemos ahora que este llamado a la santidad, que creíamos
que solamente nosotros los católicos poseíamos, ahora sabemos que se aplica a todos los bautizados. La división
entre los seguidores del Señor Jesús ha existido desde el
comienzo mismo del cristianismo. Los apóstoles se quejaron a Jesús de que otras personas, fuera de su círculo, estaban expulsando a los demonios en nombre del Señor. Jesús
puso las cosas en claro al decirles que “el que no está contra nosotros está con nosotros”. Imagínate cómo sería el
mundo si dejáramos las divisiones existentes entre nosotros y trabajaríamos juntos, inspirados por Dios, para llevar la paz y la justicia a los necesitados.
Since the Second Vatican Council, Catholics have
been led to a deeper awareness of the universal call to holiness rooted in baptism. This call to holiness, that we once
thought we alone possessed, we now know to be true of all
the baptized. Division among those who have followed the
Lord Jesus has been around since the very beginning of
Christianity. Jesus’ apostles complained to him about others, outside their circle, who were driving out demons in
the name of the Lord. Jesus set them straight by telling
them that “whoever is not against us is for us” (Mark
9:40). Imagine what the world would be like if we were
able to lay down the divisions that exist among us and
work together, inspired by God, to bring peace and justice
to those who are in need.
UNIDAD Y EL LLAMADO A LA SANTIDAD
En el Evangelio de San Juan, el Señor pronuncia
un discurso final en el que ora para que sus discípulos y
todos los que lo siguen sean uno. Es una triste realidad
que, en un mundo marcado por la división, hasta los bautizados en Jesucristo con frecuencia
no pueden trabajar juntos para
construir el Reino de Dios. Muchas
veces esperamos que los dirigentes
de las iglesias cristianas emprendan
la obra de la unidad cristiana. Ese
trabajo, en realidad, empieza en
nuestros hogares, vecindarios, escuelas, organizaciones cívicas y
centros de trabajo. En el Evangelio
de hoy el Señor le dice a sus seguidores que deben cortar
cualquier parte de su cuerpo que los induzca al pecado. La
Iglesia —el Cuerpo de Cristo— algunas veces necesita
mirarse a sí misma para saber si hay algo que es necesario
cortar. La desunión es quizás una de esas cosas que necesitamos cortar para reflejar más plenamente el rostro de
Cristo.
UNITY AND THE CALL TO HOLINESS
In John’s Gospel, the Lord utters a long final discourse in which he prays that his disciples and all who follow him will become one. It is a sad reality that in a world
marked by division, even those who are baptized into
Christ Jesus frequently cannot come together in unity to
work toward building God’s reign.
We often expect the leaders of the
Christian churches to do the work
of Christian unity. In reality, that
work begins within our homes,
neighborhoods, schools, civic organizations, and places of business.
In today’s Gospel from Mark, the
Lord tells his followers that they
should cut away any part of their
bodies that leads them into sinfulness. The Church—the
Body of Christ—sometimes needs to take a look at itself to
see if there is anything that needs to be cut away. Disunity
is perhaps one of those things about us that we need to cut
off in order to reflect the face of Christ more fully.

¿QUIÉN ESTÁ A NUESTRO FAVOR?
Like Moses before him, Jesus corrects his disciples’
misunderstanding of the gift of the Spirit. They saw people who
were not of their company casting out demons and doing other
works such as Jesus had done. Jesus points out that no one who
does a good deed in his name can be opposed to him at the same
time! He goes on to point out the importance of the “little ones”:
the poor, simple people, children, the meek ones who are not
important in the world. It is to them that he was sent, not to the
wealthy and the self-righteous. He underscores the importance
of small works done in faith, as well as big works like driving
out demons. “Anyone who gives you a cup of water . . . because
you belong to Christ . . . will surely not lose his reward” (Mark
9:41). God builds the coming reign little by little in our actions,
however small and unassuming, when they are done out of love
of God and neighbor.
Jesús, como Moisés que estuvo antes que él, corrige los
malentendidos de los discípulos sobre el don del Espíritu. Vieron
a personas, que no eran parte de su grupo, echar demonios y
hacer otros milagros como Jesús había hecho. Jesús señala que
nadie que hace milagros en su nombre puede luego hablar mal
de él. Luego señala la importancia de la “gente sencilla”: los
pobres, las personas sencillas, los niños, los humildes que no son
importantes en el mundo. Es a ellos a quienes fue enviado, no a
los ricos ni a los farisaicos. Jesús hace hincapié en la importancia de las pequeñas obras hechas con fe, de la misma manera que
las grandes obras como echar a los demonios. “Todo aquél que
les dé a beber un vaso de agua…por el hecho de que son de
Cristo…les aseguro que no se quedará sin recompensa” (Marcos
9:41). Dios construye el Reino por venir poco a poco con nuestras acciones, sin importar que sean pequeñas o sencillas, si se
las hace por amor a Dios y al prójimo.

Stained Glass Window Raffle Our annual parish raffle will benefit
the restoration and installation of the stained glass windows in our
newly renovated daily mass chapel. The friary has a treasury of
stained glass which we will remove, restore and install in our new
chapel. Tickets are $40 and come with a chance to win one of
three prizes: $2,000, $3,000 or $5,000. The drawing will be held at
our parish Card Party Saturday October 24th! Buy a ticket and win!

Altar Server Training will begin on Wed. Oct. 7th in the Church at
6:00pm. All current servers are expected to be in attendance as well
as those interested in becoming Altar Servers. We would ask that the
Adult Altar Servers be in attendance as well. For more information,
