4th Grade Class Description



4th grade students are involved in the discovery of math concepts in place value and operations, geometry,
measurement, graphing, algebra, and fractions. We will develop and use a variety of methods to increase our
ability to become high level thinking mathematicians and problem solvers.
4th graders will continue to develop their reading skills to increase their reading comprehension and fluency in all
subject areas. In our classes will learn and use new tools to help us understand, develop and increase our
everyday vocabulary along with the vocabulary of the curriculum we are studying. 4 th graders develop writing
skills and use them to create narratives, science fair projects, power point presentations, poetry and personal
journaling.
As scientists we are involved in developing our understanding of the rock cycle, the water cycle, weather, Utah
plants, animals, and habitats. Social Studies involves the discovery of Utah, our pioneer heritage, Native
Americans and the Japanese culture.
4th Grade Goals and Objectives

Utah has developed a Core Curriculum that outlines standards of learning that are essential for all students at
each elementary grade level. The curriculum includes ideas, concepts, and skills to provide a foundation on which
subsequent learning may be built.





Instructional Practices

4th grade students learn through a variety of instructional activities, which includes but is not limited to partners,
small group, whole group with extra instruction given in math and language arts to ability level groups so that
students have the greatest opportunity to learn and improve their skills and abilities. English Language
Development is instruction given to all students based upon their abilities assessed by the WIDA.
Course Requirements (Assignments, Attendance, Tardies, Discipline, etc.)



Students are expected to attend school regularly, be on time, and come prepared to learn.
Students will be expected to complete nightly homework: a daily math assignment that should take no longer than
30 minutes and at least 20 minutes of reading.
4th grade students should be able to keep hands, feet and objects to themselves; they should respect themselves,
the teacher, other students in the classroom and all adults including substitute teachers.
Grading Procedures




Clear standards and expectations are established for all students at each grade level. To be on grade level,
students are expected to be able to demonstrate knowledge for the information that has been taught with minimal
assistance from the teacher.
Homework is due the school day after it is given, unless otherwise stated.
Students are allowed by district Policy S-4 to make-up work for excused absences (illness, extracurricular
activities, religious observance, family activities,). Students will be allowed 2 days to make-up schoolwork for
excused absences.
Parents will be notified if their child consistently does not return homework or is having a difficult time with their in
class work.

Descripción del 4o Grado



Los estudiantes del 4o grado participan en el descubrimiento de los conceptos de las matemáticas en los valores
de posición y en las operaciones, la geometría y medidas, gráficas, álgebra y fracciones. Desarrollaremos y
usaremos una variedad de métodos de mejorar nuestra habilidad de ser solucionistas de problemas y
matemáticos que piensan de altos niveles.
Los estudiantes del 4o grado continuarán a desarrollar sus habilidades de lectura para mejorar su comprensión
de lectura y fluidez en cada área de estudio. En nuestras clases aprenderemos y usaremos nuevos instrumentos
para ayudarnos a entender, desarrollar y aumentar nuestro vocabulario diario además del vocabulario del
currículo que estudiamos. Los estudiantes del 4o grado desarrollan habilidades de escribir y los usan para crear
narrativas, proyectos de la feria de ciencias, presentaciones de PowerPoint, poesía y diarios personales.
Estamos participando como científicos en el desarrollo de nuestro entendimiento del ciclo de piedra, el ciclo de
agua, el tiempo, las plantas, animales y sus hábitats. Los Estudios Sociales involucran el descubrimiento de
Utah, nuestra herencia de pioneros, los nativo americanos y la cultura japonesa.
Las Metas y Objetivas del 4o Grado

El estado de Utah ha desarrollado un Currículo Básico que bosqueja los estándares de aprendizaje esenciales
para todos los estudiantes en cada grado de la primaria. El currículo incluye las ideas, destrezas y los conceptos
que proporcionan los fundamentos sobre que el aprendizaje subsiguiente se logra.

Prácticas de Instrucción

Los estudiantes del 4o grado aprenden a través de actividades de instrucción que incluyen pero no se limitan a
compañeros, grupos pequeños, clase entera con enseñanza adicional dada en las matemáticas y artes del
lenguaje a los grupos según su habilidad para que los estudiantes pueden tener la mejor oportunidad de
aprender y mejorar sus destrezas y habilidades. La enseñanza del Desarrollo del Lengua de inglés da a todos
los estudiantes basado en sus habilidades evaluadas por el examen WIDA.
Requisitos del Curso (Tareas, Asistencia, Llegadas Tardes, Disciplina, etc.)



Se espera de los estudiantes asistir la clase regularmente, estar a tiempo y llegar preparados.
Se espera de los estudiantes terminar la tarea cada noche, una tarea de las matemáticas que no debe durar más
de 30 minutos y 20 minutos de lectura.
Los estudiantes del 4o grado deberían poder mantener a sí mismos las manos, los pies y otros objetos; deberían
respetar a sí mismos, el maestro, los demás estudiantes de la clase y todos los adultos, incluyendo los maestros
sustitutos.
Procesos de Calificación




Normas y expectativas claras son establecidas para todos los estudiantes de cada grado. Para funcionar a nivel
de grado, se espera que los estudiantes puedan demostrar conocimiento de la información que ha sido enseñada
con un mínimo de ayuda del maestro.
La tarea está para entregar el próximo día después de asignarla a menos que se lo indique de otro modo.
Los estudiantes son permitidos por el Reglamento S-4 del distrito de recuperar trabajo faltado por ausencias
justificadas (enfermedad, actividades extracurriculares, observación religiosa, actividades de familia.
Se notificarán a los padres si su hijo regularmente no entregue su tarea o si tiene dificultad en su trabajo.
