The Greeks found that by making a few changes to fit the sounds of their words, they could use the alphabet to write their language. Later, the Romans borrowed the letter from the Greeks, and made changes to fit their language, Latin. Now, we use this Roman, or Latin, alphabet to show the sounds that make up our words.
