The Han
River
The han River
The Han River is one of the largest in Korea,
measuring one kilometer wide and the fourth
longest in the country (514 km). It originates
from the Namhan and Bukhan rivers. It
eventually unifies with the Imjin River flowing
into the Yellow Sea (East Korea)
The Han River in Korean history
The Han River and its surroundings play an
important role in Korean history. The Three
Kingdoms of Korea fought to control that land,
where the river was used as a trade route to
China via the Yellow Sea, the river is no longer
used for navigation as it crosses the
demilitarized zone, where entry to civilians is
prohibited.
What Korea does the Han River belong to?
The Han River currently belongs mostly to South
Korea, flowing out of its mouth into the Yellow
Sea a few nautical miles from North Korea.
