“Freedom for the wolves has often meant death to the sheep.” Isaiah Berlin.
For this evidence, read the following statements. Express to what extent you
agree or disagree with them and explain your opinion:
Agree
Disagree
I strongly agree.
I strongly disagree.
I agree.
I disagree.
a. Some people are biologically predisposed to become
criminals.
I disagree, that some people are genetically predisposed to be criminals, I think
it is
something more focused on society, culture and education. If there are no state
tools
to educate its population, give it economic stability and a good quality of life, it is
allowing factors such as robbery, crime, drug trafficking, and murder to exist.
b. Crime is a consequence of poverty.
I strongly disagree. Crime in general terms is a social consequence; it does not
belong exclusively to the low-income population. Many of the greatest criminals
in the
world have been upper class people
c. A criminal cannot be reformed.
I disagree, I believe that in relation to the criminal, rehabilitation programs can be
developed. He who steals is not the same as he who murders. I think that the
seriousness of the crime can determine who can be reincorporated into society
d. To reduce crime, we just need more police.
I disagree, I think that to reduce crime, the government should increase policies to
support citizenship, education for example should be free at least until high school,
health should be an essential right in every sense, a decent home should be a
priority , job creation and economic activation are essential to reduce crime. The
police are only a control entity, even if they have many police, in a society without
support policies, crime will always exist
e. Some criminals deserve the death penalty.
I strongly disagree. There are crimes that deserve very severe punishments. Many times I
have thought that whoever commits crimes should not live, but I think a little more reasonably,
and if we implement death as a punishment, we would also be committing a crime, which
although it is seen and protected by law, is still a crime from the point of view from an ethical
and moral point of view.
Example:
I strongly agree with the idea that some people are biologically predisposed to
become criminals; however, research has shown that having a genetic
predisposition doesn’t determine the actions of an individual. What matters the
most, according to psychologists and psychiatrists, is the environment in which
and individual is brought up. I think this is something politicians and lawmakers
should keep in mind when designing preemptive campaigns that aim at
reducing crime.
