Question 3 Read the text and answer the question according to your understanding: Not yet answered ARE YOU AN INTERNET ADDICT? Experts say that millions of people around the world are one click away from ‘online’ addiction. The Internet is where we spend more and more of our time. But for a growing number of people, it’s an out-of-control habit that interferes with normal living and causes severe stress on family, friends, loved ones and work. Kimberly Young, clinical director of the Centre for Internet Addiction Recovery and author of the book Caught in the Net, says that about 5% to 10% of Americans – 15 to 30 million people – may suffer from Internet addiction and the problem may be even greater in countries like China, Korea and Taiwan. It’s a global problem. Coleen Moore, coordinator of resource development at the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery, says she has clients from college age to early adulthood who spend 14 to 18 hours a day online. But Young notes that it’s not just how long people spend using a computer; it’s what they’re doing online. To help people with their diagnosis, Young developed a test that uses a 20-question survey to measure levels of Internet addiction. “There are no real drugs for this yet,” she says. “It’s not about medication, it’s more about therapy.” The estimated recovery time varies. At the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery, some patients need 30 to 90 days of in-patient treatment, followed by a continuing care program. But Internet addiction recovery, like any other addiction, requires lifelong treatment, experts say. Online gaming is the form of Internet addiction most rapidly growing among young people. “Initially we primarily had people addicted to surfing the Web, chat rooms, virtual communities and things like that. Now we are looking more to gaming,” Moore says. “Gaming is certainly one of the things that could get people addicted to the Internet, because it has such compelling content. But I don’t think games are any more likely to cause Internet addiction than any of the other forms of entertainment”. Points out of 1.0 Why Kimberly Young believes Internet addiction recovery, requires lifelong treatment? Select one: a. Because it must be treated like any other addiction which tends to need a lifelong treatment, and might be susceptible to relapse b. Because this addiction is particularly more serious than others c. Because this addiction affects particularly people from college age to early adulthood Because this addiction affects particularly people from college age to early adulthood 21/05/2021, 4:06 p. m. Question 4 Read and answer the question Not yet answered In late 2014, after wrapping up a North American tour, Lorde headed back to Auckland, New Zealand. She reconnected with old friends – including the kids in the “Royals” video – who weren’t too weirded out by her fame, and started trying to find her footing on a new musical path. “It kind of takes a second, I learned,” she says, “to write your way out of the record you just made.” The initial concept for the new album involved a group of aliens getting an introduction to Earth. “I remember writing about the first step outside,” she says. “These aliens have just lived in this hermetically sealed environment, and so what does the first step outside feel like?” Points out of 1.0 Retrieved from : https://au.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/lorde-how-pops-favouriteoutsider-wrote-her-next-chapter-1815/ What does the author want to say with “started trying to find her footing on a new musical path”? Question 5 Read the text and answer the question Not yet answered As always, Lorde tried to let herself be guided by her instincts, the keen perceptions that had served her so well. She has synesthesia – seeing songs not only as colours but also as textures – and grew up in a middle-class way that cultivated this, with a civil-engineer father and poet-laureate mother who taught her through an “overwhelming sensory experience of the world,” she says. “Everything is so vivid to [my mum]. And it’s all kind of governed by the senses in quite a literal way – like, the taste of different fruits can be art.” Despite being a child who was “kind of solitary, dreamy, off in a place,” she grew up with a deep reverence for pop, which she sometimes studied more than her subjects in school. “I have always been super-allergic to anything that feels exclusive in art,” she tells me. Not yet answered Six out of ten CV’s which are prepared by Information Technology professionals fail to meet the basic standards and are turned down without even being read fully, according to a recruitment company. As a consequence, thousands of candidates are excluding themselves from attractive job opportunities. Although the company handles over 60,000 CV’s per year, it estimates that at least 60% would not be admitted if they were sent directly to potential clients due to basic errors. The company Marketing Director said, “Sadly it’s often the most highly qualified candidates whose CV’s are so poorly constructed that they are literally dead on arrival. Attractive job opportunities in the IT industry often generate intense competition and there is often little to choose between the candidates”. “Advice on the presentation format of CV’s in relation to the requirements that they are being submitted for should be an Industry standard so as to add real value to the candidates that you are representing and indeed to fulfil your professional obligations to your clients”. “Writing a CV can be extremely difficult and too often a CV turns out to be a generic overview including a lot of information that is irrelevant. People should remember that an employer typically spends between 15 and 30 seconds scanning each CV and you have that one chance to make an impression”. “A good CV is more than just documentation of your career path; it is a marketing tool designed to present your professional career experience according to the new job specification. It should also include details of past professional successes that effectively demonstrate your ability to undertake the job responsibilities outlined”.
