Full Voltage Starting Electric
Fire Pump Controllers
Description—Firetrol® FTA1000 Full Voltage Fire
Pump Controllers are intended for use with electric
motor driven fire pumps where the capacity of the
power source permits full voltage starting. Full voltage is applied to the motor as soon as the controller
is actuated. The controller monitors, displays and
records fire pump system information.
Full voltage starting is simple and low cost and is
preferred whenever the utility or emergency generator
set will permit this type of starting.
Approvals—Firetrol fire pump controllers are listed
by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., in accordance with
UL218, Standard for Fire Pump Controllers, CSA,
Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, and approved by Factory Mutual. They are built to meet or

Part Winding Starting Electric
Fire Pump Controllers
Description—Firetrol® FTA1250 Part Winding Starting Fire Pump Controllers can be used where the characteristics of the power source do not permit full voltage starting. The controller monitors, displays and
records fire pump system information.
When the controller is actuated by the pressure
switch, START pushbutton, deluge valve contact, etc.,
the first contactor closes, connecting one of the motor windings to the line. During starting, the motor will
draw approximately 65% of its normal locked rotor
current and develop approximately 42% of its normal
starting torque. After a time delay, the second
contactor closes, connecting the second winding in
parallel with the first. The motor then draws its normal
running current and develops its rated torque.
Approvals—Firetrol fire pump controllers are listed
by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., in accordance with
UL218, Standard for Fire Pump Controllers, CSA,
Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, and approved by Factory Mutual. They are built to meet or

Wye-Delta Open Transition Starting Electric
Fire Pump Controllers
Description—Firetrol® FTA1300 Wye-Delta, Open
Transition Starting Fire Pump Controllers are used
with delta-wound squirrel cage motors. FTA1300 controllers are of the open circuit transition type in which

Primary Resistance Starting Electric
Fire Pump Controllers
Description—Firetrol® FTA1500 Primary Resistance
Fire Pump Controllers use resistors in the line to reduce line voltage when starting the pump motor. The
controller monitors, displays and records fire pump
system information.
The circuit to the motor is not opened during the transition from start to run. While starting, the motor will
draw 50% of full load starting current and supply 25%
of rated torque. This method of starting minimizes
line disturbances and voltage drop when starting.
Approvals—Firetrol fire pump controllers are listed
by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., in accordance with
UL218, Standard for Fire Pump Controllers, CSA,
Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, and approved by Factory Mutual. They are built to meet or
exceed the requirements of the approving authorities
as well as NEMA and the latest editions of NFPA 20,
Installation of Centrifugal Fire Pumps, and NFPA 70,
National Electrical Code.

standard with each controller:

Autotransformer Starting Electric
Fire Pump Controllers
Description—Firetrol® FTA1800 Autotransformer Starting Fire Pump Controllers use an autotransformer to
supply reduced voltage when starting the motor. The
controller is of the closed circuit type where the motor circuit remains closed during the transition from
start to run resulting in minimum line disturbance.
The controller monitors, displays and records fire pump
system information.
The autotransformer has three taps for selection of
starting current and torque; 50% tap for 150% current and 25% torque, 65% tap (factory setting) for
250% current and 42% torque and the 80% tap for
384% current and 64% torque.
Approvals—Firetrol fire pump controllers are listed
by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., in accordance with
UL218, Standard for Fire Pump Controllers, CSA,
Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, and approved by Factory Mutual. They are built to meet or
exceed the requirements of the approving authorities
as well as NEMA and the latest editions of NFPA 20,
Installation of Centrifugal Fire Pumps, and NFPA 70,
National Electrical Code.

Solid State Starting Electric
Fire Pump Controllers
Description—Firetrol® FTA1900 Solid State Starting
Fire Pump Controllers feature soft start, soft stop and
system sensing capabilities that not only provide for
reduced voltage starting, but also offer an improved
level of hydromechanical performance. The controller
monitors, displays and records fire pump system information.
When called to run, the motor will accelerate along a
ramp beginning at 40% of normal starting current with
15% of full voltage torque. When stopping, the motor
will ramp down to a preset level and allow for a restart, limiting stress in the piping system. If no additional starting causes are present, the motor will continue to ramp down to a full stop. This controller helps
to reduce water hammer in the system.
Approvals—Firetrol fire pump controllers are listed
by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., in accordance with
UL218, Standard for Fire Pump Controllers, CSA,
Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, and approved by Factory Mutual. They are built to meet or

Alarm Panels
Electric Fire Pump Controllers
• FTA200-A
FTA200-B
Type B - Type B panels provide the same alarm indication as the Type A except that SUPERVISORY
POWER FAILURE does not have the audible alarm
feature. Only a visible alarm indication is provided.
Description—Firetrol® FTA200 alarm panels are
designed to meet the NPFA 20 specifications requiring a remote alarm panel when the pump house or
pump room is not constantly attended. The alarm
panel must be installed in a location that is under
supervision at all times.
Approvals—These alarm panels are listed by
Underwriter’s Laboratories, Inc., in accordance with
UL508, Standard for Industrial Controls, certified by
CSA, Standard for Industrial Control Equipment
(cUL), approved by the New York City Bureau of Electrical Control and Board of Standards and Appeals
and Factory Mutual. They are designed to meet or
exceed the requirements of the approving authorities listed above as well as NFPA 20, Installation of
Centrifugal Fire Pumps.
Standard Features—The following are included as
standard with each controller:
Type A - Type A panels provide audible and visible
alarm indication for the following conditions:
n Supervisory Voltage Normal
n Pump Operating
n Pump Phase Failure
n Pump Phase Reversal
Construction - FTA200 alarm panels make use of
printed circuit boards which provide reliable and
trouble free service. The enclosures are NEMA Type
2 (IEC IP11) drip-proof for indoor wall mounting. The
standard enclosure color is red.
Mounted on the enclosure door are the pilot lights
for visible alarm indication, the audible device for
audible alarm indication, the SILENCE ALARM
pushbutton and the PUSH-TO-TEST pushbutton.
Each pilot light will illuminate to indicate its alarm
condition and will remain lighted until the abnormal
condition has been corrected. The audible alarm
will sound when the alarm conditions occur and will
continue to sound until the abnormal condition has
been corrected or the SILENCE ALARM pushbutton
has been pressed. Pressing the SILENCE ALARM
pushbutton will silence the audible alarm but will not
extinguish the pilot light. If another alarm condition
occurs the audible alarm will again sound until silenced by the SILENCE ALARM pushbutton or until
the abnormal condition has been corrected.
The PUSH-TO-TEST pushbutton is supplied for
manually testing the pilot lights, audible alarm and
output circuits.
Modifications—The following are available as modifications to the controllers:
Special Enclosures
-F
NEMA Type 4X, 304 stainless (IEC IP56)
