¿Cómo te involucraste con las películas de LOS PITUFOS?
Me pidieron que trabajara en LOS PITUFOS cuando estaba grabando mi segundo
disco, antes de que éste tuviera éxito. Recuerdo que estaba en mi ciudad natal,
Santa Barbara, grabando Teenage Dream y uno de mis agentes me llamó y me dijo
que LOS PITUFOS de Sony me buscaban. ? Quieren que seas Pitufina. ¿Te interesa este
tipo de trabajo y adoptar eso en tu carrera?? Yo dije, "Sí". Realmente deseaba ser
parte de una película animada, o de cualquier clase de familia animada.
¿Qué tienes en común con Pitufina?
Bueno, podría decir que muchas buenas cualidades, ¡pero eso sonaría un poco
egocéntrico! Es cariñosa y amable, se preocupa por los otros Pitufos y eso hago yo
con mis amigos y mi familia. También pienso que tiene una gran profundidad. Debido
a que Gargamel la creó, ella proviene de un ámbito muy distinto al de los otros
Pitufos. Así que pasó por varias etapas emocionales y por lo mismo tiene motivos para
maravillarse acerca de la vida. Me identifico con ella en su deseo de descubrir quién
es, de dónde proviene y quién desea ser cuando crezca. Tenemos eso en común y
siempre estamos trabajando en nosotras mismas.
¿Crees que Pitufina tiene una cualidad romántica?
Bueno, no sé si Pitufina es romántica. En realidad no creo que se enfoque en eso.
Pienso que se trata más bien de la llegada a la mayoría de edad, pero no tiene
muchas opciones, pues es la única mujer, además de Vexy [una de las Traviesas de
Gargamel], que me encanta. Me gusta Christina Ricci [que da voz a Vexy] y me
alegró compartir el estudio de grabación con ella.
¿Hay algo que puedas aprender de Pitufina?
Sí, pienso que el argumento está bellamente escrito y me agrada esta secuela pues
ella recibe muchas tentaciones por parte de estos Traviesos. Y ella recuerda de
dónde proviene, sabe que fue creada por Gargamel, pero el bien siempre triunfa
sobre el mal, lo cual es grandioso y le da esperanza a las personas. Creo que
podemos tener tentaciones en la vida, pero con esperanza podemos estar firmes
sobre nuestros pies y dejar que el bien triunfe sobre el mal.
¿Cómo cuidas tu voz durante la grabación de la película?
Debo descansar un día después de hacer la voz de Pitufina, pues es un poco difícil
para mi voz natural. La uso de manera totalmente distinta. En cierta forma es una
gimnasia vocal, sólo que distinta. Así que debo tener cuidado. Uso atomizadores,
pociones, lociones y cosas así.
¿En qué difiere LOS PITUFOS 2 de la primera película?
La diferencia es que esta película ciertamente tiene más participación de Pitufina y
además trata acerca de dónde proviene ella. Es como una historia de la llegada a la
mayoría de edad. Creo que Pitufina reflexiona mucho y se pregunta quién es ella.
Pienso que está creciendo y se siente entretenida con los Traviesos. Esto hace que
LOS PITUFOS 2 sea una historia con la que se pueden relacionar los niños que
deliberan sobre su dinámica familiar, debido a que hay una historia paralela, una
trama afín con los Winslow [interpretados por Neil Patrick Harris y Jayma Mays]. Es una
película basada en la familia; aborda situaciones y temas que podrá entender la
familia entera cuando vaya al cine y la vea. También es de verdad divertida. Pienso
que no sólo se preparó para un público joven, también se dirige a los cinéfilos adultos
más sofisticados. Yo soy una espectadora exigente cuando voy a ver una película y
me emocioné varias veces cuando vi ésta. El argumento es mejor en LOS PITUFOS 2 y
la animación también. La primera fue grandiosa, obviamente. Funcionó muy bien por
sí misma, pero ésta es incluso superior, una versión más evolucionada.
Me parece que en la película dicen que la vida nunca puede ser tan caricaturesca
¿cierto?
La vida no puede ser demasiado caricaturesca. Pero a mí me gusta ser
caricaturesca, sí. Me encanta exagerar y ser más grande que la vida cuando esto es
apropiado para el escenario, el cine y la animación. Me fascina hacer animación.
Puedo llegar a trabajar en pijama, sin una gota de maquillaje y sin pestañas. Sólo
debo ser yo misma. Entro en la cabina y es realmente divertido trabajar en
animación.
¿Prefieres la ropa informal?
Si no debo vestirme elegante, me encanta la ropa informal, pero eso se debe a que
trabajo mucho. Si voy al estudio me pongo mis pants de entrenamiento o algo
cómodo, pues deseo poner toda mi atención en mi trabajo. ¡Se requiere mucho
esfuerzo para vestirte elegante!
¿Inviertes mucho tiempo para entrenar y mantenerte en forma?
Sí, pero sobre todo para mi salud mental, ya que eso de verdad ayuda a tu
perspectiva general y a tu vida, aporta cierta cantidad de serotonina que es
necesaria.
¿Quiénes eran tus heroínas mientras crecías?
Bueno, no me permitían ver mucha televisión cuando era pequeña. Me crié en un
hogar muy religioso, así que nos prohibían cosas, pero me encantaba Wonder
Woman. ¡Me gustaría que hicieran esa película! También me gusta Gwen Stefani y
Angelina Jolie como Lara Croft. Me agrada más como Embajadora de las Naciones
Unidas, pero aprecio sus películas también. Y la respeto como persona.
¿Te gustaría filmar otras películas?
Por supuesto. Me interesa más la comedia, pero también me gustaría afrontar el reto
del drama. Para mí la animación es una forma agradable de empezar a ?meter tus
pies en el agua?. Esto no es fácil y tampoco es algo que cualquiera pueda hacer,
pero tengo la posibilidad de ir al estudio en pijama y sin gota de maquillaje, ¡y eso es
agradable!
¿ Qué es lo que buscas transmitir a tus fans a través de tus canciones ?
Lo que espero es lograr una conexión con ellos con canciones divertidas cómo como
"California Gurls " o " Last Friday Night ", o temas que están en un nivel emocional
como
" Fireworks ", que pretendo los inspiren y se conviertan en mantras, es decir, que
puedan curar sus problemas, puesto que la música para mi es una cura.
Cuéntanos, en que te inspiraste para escribir " California Gurls " ?
Fui a una fiesta en Los Ángeles y mis amigas estaban muy emocionadas con la
canción " Empire State of Mind ", de Jay Z y Alicia Keys, que habla de Nueva York.
Entonces comentaron: " Kate, esto no es justo, debe haber una canción que hable de
California " Y me dije, " Es necesario una especie de himno para ese estado; lo hemos
tenido en el pasado, pero no desde una perspectiva femenina ". Así que fui a mi casa
y le comenté a mi marido sobre la idea, le pareció genial. En la canción hablo de
cómo son en realidad las chicas, no que sean materialistas, sino con los pies en la
tierra, con mucha personalidad.
En el CD hay una canción inspirada en tu relación con Russel Brand, " Fireworks ", ¿
Qué nos puedes decir acerca de ella ?
Katy: Escribí esa canción tomando en cuenta dos ideas: una es algo así como "
cuando paso junto a ti es como si hubiera fuegos artificiales ", y la otra es tomada de
un párrafo de un libro escrito por Jack Kerouac, " On The Road ". En él menciona que
cada persona tiene fuegos artificiales, porque cuando pasas, la gente exclama: "
oooh! " y se maravillan con la personalidad o apariencia. A esome refiero, en un
plano individual.
Al verte, nos da la impresión de que siempre estás de muy buen humor o lista para
hacer bromas pero, ¿ Qué puede ponerte de malas ?
Dormir poco (Ríe). Realmente algo que me molesta mucho es la gente sin integridad;
los que engañan a otras personas con tal de beneficiarse. Pero, volviendo a lo de
dormir plácidamente, no me gustan los ruidos extraños que espanten mi sueño.
Para ti, ¿ Qué es lo mejor y lo peor de ser una celebridad, de que te reconozcan ?
Lo peor sería el hecho de que no todo lo que tú consideras privado es privado, por lo
cuál tienes que estar alerta de todo lo que haces y dices. No es que me preocupe
mucho, pero estoy consciente de ello. Lo mejor es que tienes una vida fuera de lo
normal; me refiero a que conoces a mucha gente, vas a muchos lugares y tienes la
oportunidad de relacionarte con gente interesantes y trabajar con ellas. Es algo
como muy cinematográfico

How did you get involved with LOS PITUFOS movies?
They asked me to work at LOS PITUFOS when I was recording my second album,
before it was successful. I remember being in my hometown, Santa Barbara, recording
Teenage Dream and one of my agents called me and told me that Sony SMALLS were
looking for me. ? They want you to be Smurfette. Are you interested in this type of work
and adopt that in your career? I said yes". I really wanted to be part of an animated
movie, or any kind of animated family.
What do you have in common with Smurfette?
Well, I could say that many good qualities, but that would sound a bit self-centered!
She is affectionate and kind, cares about the other Smurfs and I do that with my
friends and my family. I also think it has great depth. Because Gargamel created her,
she comes from a very different environment than the other Smurfs. So he went
through several emotional stages and therefore has reason to marvel about life. I
identify with her in her desire to discover who she is, where she comes from and who
she wants to be when she grows up. We have that in common and we are always
working on ourselves.
Do you think Smurfette has a romantic quality?
Well, I don't know if Smurfette is romantic. I don't really think he focused on that. I think
it is more about the coming of age, but it does not have many options, because it is
the only woman, besides Vexy [one of Gargamel's Naughty], which I love. I like
Christina Ricci [who gives voice to Vexy] and I was glad to share the recording studio
with her.
Is there anything you can learn from Smurfette?
Yes, I think the argument is beautifully written and I like this sequel because she
receives many temptations from these Naughty. And she remembers where it comes
from, she knows it was created by Gargamel, but good always triumphs over evil,
which is great and gives people hope. I think we can have temptations in life, but
hopefully we can stand firm on our feet and let good triumph over evil.
How do you take care of your voice during movie recording?
I must rest a day after making the voice of Smurfette, it is a bit difficult for my natural
voice. I use it completely differently. In a way it is vocal gymnastics, only different. So I
must be careful. I use atomizers, potions, lotions and things like that.
How does LOS PITUFOS 2 differ from the first film?
The difference is that this movie certainly has more participation of Smurfette and also
deals with where she comes from. It is like a story of the coming of age. I think
Smurfette reflects a lot and wonders who she is. I think it is growing and feels
entertaining with Naughty. This makes LOS PITUFOS 2 a story with which children who
deliberate about their family dynamics can be related, because there is a parallel
story, a plot related to the Winslow [played by Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays]. It is
a family based movie; It addresses situations and issues that the whole family can
understand when they go to the movies and see it. It is also really fun. I think that he
not only prepared himself for a young audience, he also addresses the most
sophisticated adult movie buffs. I am a demanding spectator when I go to see a
movie and I got excited several times when I saw this one. The plot is better in LOS
PITUFOS 2 and the animation too. The first was great, obviously. It worked very well by
itself, but this one is even superior, a more evolved version.
It seems to me that in the movie they say that life can never be so cartoonish, right?
Life cannot be too cartoonish. But I like to be cartoonish, yes. I love to exaggerate and
be bigger than life when this is appropriate for the stage, the cinema and the
animation. I love doing animation. I can get to work in pajamas, without a drop of
makeup and without eyelashes. I just have to be myself. I enter the cabin and it's really
fun to work in animation.
Do you prefer casual clothes?
If I don't have to dress smart, I love casual clothes, but that's because I work a lot. If I
go to the studio I put on my training pants or something comfortable, because I want
to put all my attention on my work. It takes a lot of effort to dress smart!
Do you invest a lot of time to train and stay fit?
Yes, but above all for my mental health, since that really helps your overall perspective
and your life, it provides a certain amount of serotonin that is necessary.
Who were your heroines while growing up?
Well, they didn't allow me to watch a lot of television when I was little. I grew up in a
very religious home, so we were forbidden, but I loved Wonder Woman. I wish they
made that movie! I also like Gwen Stefani and Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. I like her
more as a United Nations Ambassador, but I appreciate her films too. And I respect her
as a person.
Would you like to shoot other movies?
Of course. I am more interested in comedy, but I would also like to face the challenge
of drama. For me, animation is a pleasant way to start putting your feet in the water.
This is not easy and it is not something that anyone can do, but I have the possibility to
go to the studio in pajamas and without a drop of makeup, and that is nice!
What do you want to convey to your fans through your songs?
What I hope is to make a connection with them with funny songs like "California Gurls"
or "Last Friday Night", or songs that are on an emotional level like
"Fireworks", which I intend to inspire and become mantras, that is, they can cure their
problems, since music for me is a cure.
Tell us, what inspired you to write "California Gurls"?
I went to a party in Los Angeles and my friends were very excited about the song
"Empire State of Mind" by Jay Z and Alicia Keys, which speaks of New York. Then they
commented: "Kate, this is not fair, there must be a song that speaks of California" And I
said to myself, "You need a kind of hymn for that state; we have had it in the past, but
not from a female perspective." So I went to my house and told my husband about
the idea, it seemed great. In the song I talk about how girls really are, not that they are
materialistic, but with their feet on the ground, with a lot of personality.
On the CD there is a song inspired by your relationship with Russel Brand, "Fireworks",
what can you tell us about it?
Katy: I wrote that song taking into account two ideas: one is something like "when I
pass by you it's like there are fireworks", and the other is taken from a paragraph in a
book written by Jack Kerouac, "On The Road ". It mentions that each person has
fireworks, because when you pass, people exclaim: "oooh!" And marvel at the
personality or appearance. A esome I mean, on an individual level.
Seeing you, it gives us the impression that you are always in a good mood or ready to
make jokes, but what can make you bad?
Sleep a little (laughs). Really something that bothers me a lot is people without
integrity; those who cheat other people in order to benefit. But, going back to
sleeping peacefully, I don't like strange noises that scare my sleep.
For you, what is the best and worst thing about being a celebrity, of being recognized?
The worst would be the fact that not everything you consider private is private, so you
have to be alert for everything you do and say. Not that I worry much, but I am aware
of it. The best thing is that you have an unusual life; I mean you know a lot of people,
you go to many places and you have the opportunity to interact with interesting
people and work with them. It's something like very cinematic
