Introductory paragraph 1st body paragraph: your strongest argument 2nd body paragraph: your 2nd strongest argument 3rd body paragraph: acknowledge another perspective on the subject and respond Conclusion paragraph Write your introductory paragraph, following the outline below as a guide to help you to organize your ideas. Sentence 1: Give a very general statement related to the topic. Sentence 2: Bring the statement into a particular situation. Use a transition such as hoy en día to make it current. Sentence 3: Present your thesis. This is the main point you will argue. Sentence 4: In one sentence, give the reason(s) for your claim. Sentence 5: Tell the reader that you are going to present, or elaborate further. Invite your reader. You may use possibilities, thus you may have to use subjunctive forms. For example: Veamos (Let’s see…)… Es importante que nosotros + subjuntivo (It’s important that we…) Body paragraphs…some advice: Start each paragraph with a topic sentence…not a source citation. Refer to the “Recomendaciones para el ensayo de síntesis” for how to cite sources. Vary how you do that throughout your essay. Remember that you have to cite all three! DO NOT COPY TEXT DIRECTLY FROM THE SOURCES….YOU MUST PARAPHRASE IN YOUR OWN WORDS. DIRECT QUOTES ARE NOT ALLOWED ON AP ESSAYS!!!!!!! Assume that the person reading your essay has not seen the sources. Include enough detail in the information that you use from each source to give a complete explanation of that information, and make sure it supports the reason behind your claim! Connect all the dots for your reader!
