Practice position words through kinesthetic
learning methods. Bring a chair to the front
of the room and invite a child to be the
“marmota.” Read the first caption in the
issue: ¿Dónde está la marmota? Al lado de la
niña o encima de la niña. Ask the “marmota”
to act it out, using the chair as a prop. First
he or she can stand beside the chair, and
then he or she can go over the chair. Let
children take turns acting out the position
words as you read the rest of the issue.
Go on an alphabet scavenger hunt!
Display the Big Issue and point out that
it only goes up to the letter D. Then
together, try to find every other letter of
the alphabet! Go in alphabetical order and
circle each letter you find—the letters do
not have to be at the beginning of words.

and cover rough edges with duct tape.

do in their burrows! Point out places in the
classroom that might make a good place
to “hibernar,” such as pillows in the library
corner, beneath a large table, and so on.

while the music plays, it’s spring—they can
pretend to dance and play outdoors. When
the music stops, it’s winter, and they must
find a safe place to curl up and go to sleep!

animals would! Ask volunteers to play the
ladybug, mouse, frog, bunny, puppy, lamb,
and pig. Let children decide how they
think their animal would say “¡te quiero!”
Then have them line up in order and have
