At South, We Read!! Every English 1 student will read a book during the summer months. Students may choose the book they will read, considering these guidelines: The book must be “new reading” for the student, not a book that has been read before. The book must be appropriate for the student’s reading level / grade level. The student must prepare a one-page write-up on the book. This should include the following: a brief summary of the plot and what can be learned from the story choose a character and explain what you liked or did not like about him or her two significant quotes with MLA style citations, and why you chose each quote Advanced English students will be required to write a two-page write up on the book that includes all of the above and the following: Explain themes present in the novel, and why their book meets advanced level reading This is due by the end of the first week of school.
