Free ESL and GED classes are offered starting in June at the College of Lake County in
Grayslake and throughout Lake County.

Enroll now for free summer and fall ESL and GED classes at College of Lake County
GRAYSLAKE – Registration is now underway for free English as a Second Language (ESL) and
GED® (General Education Development, high school equivalency) classes starting every Jan.,
Jun., or Aug., at the College of Lake County.
Students can choose a class time that fits their individual schedule -- days, evenings or weekends at
CLC’s three campuses and locations across Lake County. The classes are sponsored by the Illinois
Community College Board and are offered at no cost.
After completing a CLC student admission form at www.clcillinois.edu/apply and prior to enrolling in
Adult Basic Education (ABE), ESL or GED classes, students must take two placement tests at the
Grayslake, Lakeshore (Waukegan) or Southlake (Vernon Hills) campus during intake hours. For
placement test information, call (847) 543-2021, or 847-543-2445.
Information on ESL placement testing is available by phone 24/7 at (847) 543-2000, ext. 9975; for GED
or ABE placement, information is available 24/7 in English or Spanish at (847) 543-2000, ext. 9984.
More information is available in the class schedule every semester.
ESL and GED Testing and Registration Intake Hours:
Grayslake Campus: Building 4, room 418, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays.
Lakeshore Campus: 1 N. Genesee St., second floor, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Southlake Campus: 1120 S. Milwaukee Ave., room R014 on first and third Thursdays of each month.

In addition, the Family Literacy Program free GED and ESL classes for parents with children ages 6 and
under provide literacy activities for parents and their young children. Classes are offered at various
community sites. For more information call (847) 543-2591 or (847) 543-2578.
Also, College of Lake County has Support for English Language Learners. An ESL Support class and or a
bilingual tutor are provided for various sections in the Automotive, HVAC Engineering Technology,
Administrative Office Systems and CNC Programming certificates. These classes are for people who are
intermediate or advanced English Language Learners. there will be a bilingual tutor; some classes may
have translated materials. There will be a special English as a Second Language class to review
vocabulary and important class concepts for some sections. For information regarding classes with ESL

the Grayslake campus.
