In completing this activity, you and your child will enrich your relationship while working together. By working with your child, engaging
them to discuss what choices they are making while doing the activity and in discussing their family traditions, you are enriching their language development and sense of self. This activity is also a great opportunity for your child to practice their fine motor skills.

• Washable markers
• Contact paper

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Listen to the song, “It’s Great To Be Me,” with the child.
2. Read the story, The Biggest Christmas Tree Every by Steven
Kroll with the child.
3. Place the mat on the playing area and sit with the child.
4. Arrange the craft supplies in front of the child.
5. Start by removing the back of a sheet of contact paper.
Place the paper adhesive side up on a flat surface. Place a
large sheet of construction paper on the contact paper.
6. Paint the child’s hand green, and help him make a Christmas
tree shape, with one handprint at the top facing down, two
handprints under for the middle and three at the bottom.

7. When the paint dries, have the child decorate the tree
using markers, glitter, stars and sequins.
8. When the placemat is finished, cover the top of the mat
with another sheet of clear contact paper so that the surface
is waterproof.
9. Trim the edges of the placemat so no contact paper is
hanging off the edges.
10. End the activity by singing the song, “It’s Great To Be
Me,” with your child, remembering the uniqueness of your
own family holiday traditions.
11. Clean up the play area together. Fold the playing mat
together and put it away.

y adornar el mantel frente a su niño(a).
5. Empiece despegando el papel para forrar. Use una superficie

6. Pinte las manos de su niño(a) de verde, y pídale que plasme

el agua.
9. Recorte los bordes del mantel para que no sobre mucho papel
para forrar.
10. Finalice la actividad cantando la canción, “Es grandioso ser
yo”, con su niño(a) recordando lo que hace únicas sus tradiciones
familiares.
11. Limpien juntos el área. Doblen la manta que usaron para
hacer la actividad.
