Weekly Reflection
Reflexión Semanal
Boundless and limitless
Infinito y sin límites
Today’s readings and prayers illustrate that God’s love
is boundless. In the Gospel, Jesus returns to the apostles for the third time to continue preparing them for the
work they must do. They are so happy to be in his
company again. They have yet to truly comprehend the
mission that Jesus has been preparing them for. Jesus
uses the casting of the nets and bountiful catch of fish
as the symbol of the work he desires the apostles to do.
After the miraculous catch, Jesus asks Peter three
times if he loves him. After each inquiry which Peter
answers in the affirmative, Jesus responds, “Feed my
lambs” and “Tend my sheep.” Jesus wants them to understand that if they go out and evangelize, inspired by
his love for them, their yield will be boundless like their
catch of fish. This is indeed what the apostles do after
Jesus returns to heaven. In the first reading from Acts,
the apostles are brought before the Sanhedrin and reminded that they had been ordered to cease teaching in
Jesus’ name. Peter tells the high priest that this is impossible. “We are witnesses of these things, as is the
Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey
him.” Peter adds that they can’t stop preaching because “we must obey God
rather than men.” In the
second reading, John has
a vision that testifies to
the love of God the Father
for Jesus as he is extolled
by every creature in heaven and on earth. This
love is the basis for everything that Peter and the
apostles do. Their faith is
bringing them closer to
the understanding that,
“To the one who sits on
the throne and to the
Lamb be blessing and
honor, glory and might,
forever
and
ever” (Revelation 5:13).
Aún no
Cordero, alabanza, honor, gloria y

We are reminded, at the beginning of
Lent, that this is a special time for prayer,
fasting, and almsgiving. Through prayer,
we enter into the Mystery of God’s presence and deepen
our awareness that God is Creator, Savior, and Loving
Spirit in the world. Through our experiences of fasting and
abstinence, we discover the gift of our human nature and
the frailty of our own will. It is within our service and charity towards others that we offer our resources for those
around us. All this culminates in the great events of Holy
Week and the Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday,
and Holy Saturday. The sacramental life of the Church is
celebrated as when we encounter, in a very personal
way, our deeper conversion of heart and mind. Through
the Paschal Mystery, of Christ’s Passion, Death, and
Resurrection, we rise up with Jesus into the wonder of
being Christ’s followers and a community of believers.
Throughout the 40 days of Lent, we stretch our spiritual
muscles and allow the Lord to renew us in body, mind,
and spirit for the New Life that we now celebrate throughout the Easter Season. For the next 50 days, we live the
life of abundant grace that has been showered upon us.
It is in the believing community gathered in prayer that we
discover the power of the Risen Christ and His Spirit alive
among us. It is in our renewed commitment to live our
lives strengthened by the experience what it means to be
a people healed and saved from the powers of sin and
division. Jesus is our bridge who links us to the life of
grace and fulfillment. The Spirit, which hovered over creation in the Book of Genesis and over Jesus the “Beloved
Son”, at His baptism, now hovers over all of us with the
strength and power that only comes from God.
By the end of the Easter Season, we who are the Body of
Christ, will have experienced 90 days of renewal and conversion. In these days ahead, many in our community will
witness this new-found life in Christ. Those baptized and
received through the Easter Sacraments will be embraced and integrated into our community of faith. Those
receiving their first communion will begin a new relationship with the Eucharistic Jesus and forever be called upon to be an example of Christ’s love. Those receiving the
Sacrament of Confirmation will be called upon to witness
the presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives and to share
these gifts of the Spirit within the Church and outside to a
world that hungers for Wisdom, Understanding, Prudence, Knowledge, Fortitude, Piety, and Hope.
As we journey together during this season of grace, may
the conversion of heart that we desire for ourselves and
those around us; rejuvenate our lives, restore our relationships, and spring forth Mercy and Peace. Let us proclaim the Mystery of Faith- “Save Us Savior of the World,
for by your Cross and Resurrection, You have Set us
Free. You are the Savior of the World.”
May the Peace of Christ’s Spirit be with you.
Blessings, Fr. Leon

Prudencia, Consejo, Fortaleza, Piedad y Esperanza.
Bendiciones.
Padre Leon.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter
Think of how tired, discouraged and frustrated the apostles must have been in the Gospel reading today. Then Jesus shows up
and tells them to try one more time. Because they were willing and obedient, Jesus
blessed them abundantly. It works the same way in our
own lives today; if we trust in Jesus and do what He tells
us to do we will receive His abundant blessings! Allow
the grace of God to strengthen, renew and rekindle your
marriage relationship. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends are April 16-17 at St. Serra Parish in
Lancaster, or June 25-26 at St. Jude Parish in Westlake
Village. Contact Jeanine and Russ Walker at 805-6484244 or go online at www.twocanlove.org. We help make
good marriages better.
