La Tarasque
Había una vez una criatura tan horrible y tan cruel que vivía
en las profundas aguas del río Ródano, cerca de la ciudad de
Tarascon. Aterrorizaba a los habitantes y diezmaba todo a su
paso.
Once upon a time, there was a creature as
hideous as cruel who lived in the deep waters of
the Rhone, near the town of Tarascon. It
terrorized the inhabitants as it decimated
everything in its path.
Un día, doce jóvenes quisieron acabar con la criatura. Seis de
ellos murieron y otros seis regresaron a la ciudad y contaron lo
que habían visto. Desde ese día, a la terrible criatura la llamaron
la Tarasque y continuó aterrorizando a la gente.
One day, twelve boys wanted to dislodge the
creature. Six of them were killed and, the other
six went back to the village to tell what they
saw. Since that day, the terrible creature was
called the Tarasque and continued to terrorize
people.
Unos meses después, llegó una chica llamada Marta.
Ella propuso matar al monstruo.
Some months later, a girl named
Marthe arrived. She proposed the
inhabitants to hunt the monster.
She offered to the inhabitants to hunt the
monster.
Al día siguiente, ella vio al monstruo. Y le dijo: “¡pobre cosa! Tú
no eres el único que está pasando dificultades, te contaré mis
desventuras…” Marta habló tan bien que la criatura finalmente
se amansó y se durmió.
The next day, she saw the monster. She told it:
"Poor thing! You're not the only one through
difficult times. I'll tell you my misfortunes ... ".
Marthe spoke, so well that the creature finally
let itself tamed and fell asleep.
Los pescadores, asombrados por el milagro, fueron a
contárselo a la gente del pueblo. Ellos llegaron armados y
mataron a la criatura. Lo mostraron en la plaza de Tarascon
y le dejaron a secar al sol.
Fishermen, amazed by this miracle, went to
fetch the village people. They came armed
and killed the creature. They showed it in
the square of Tarascon and let it dried
under the sun.
Unos días después, algunos hombre se metieron bajo la piel
del animal para divertirse asustando a los caminantes. Desde
entonces, cada año, la gente de Tarascon simula traer de
vuelta a la vida al Tasrasque durante un dia.
A few days later, some men slipped under
the skin of the animal for fun to scare
passers-by. Since that day, every year, the
people of Tarascon pretend to bring the
Tarasque back to life and party all day
long.
