FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
JULY 3, 2011
At that time Jesus exclaimed: I give praise to you Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these
things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them
to little ones… Come to me, all you who labor and are
burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and
learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and you
will find rest for yourselves…”
It is always special to catch a glimpse of Jesus at prayer, in
conversation with the Father at prayer. We find Him speaking
before He raised Lazarus from the dead, following the last
supper in the garden of Gethsemani, and today as He offers
praise to the Father, and invites us to learn from Him.
This weekend we take leave of work and activity to rest for a
holiday. We lay our burdens down and seek rest in the Lord.
The scriptures speak of two special virtues we find in the Lord
– meekness and humility. How interesting these are two of our
own goals as we read His instructions in the beatitudes in
the sermon on the mount.
Meekness encompasses gentleness and kindness.
Humility houses honesty and openness. As I seek to
embrace Jesus and learn from Him, I ask for these
virtues to be part of my life. He is the model, we follow
His example.
We make this our goal each and every day, not just when
we seek a change of pace as on this Independence Day
weekend but throughout the years we consciously strive
to learn from Him.
St. Mary’s Parish mourns the passing of
Rev. Francisco Ponce.

SU PALABRA HOY
DECIMOCUARTO DOMINGO EN TIEMPO ORDINARIO

“En
En aquel tiempo, tomando Jesús la palabra, dijo: ‘Yo te
bendigo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has
ocultado estas cosas a sabios e inteligentes, y se las has
revelado a pequeños’ ... ‘Venid a mí todos los que estáis
fatigados y sobrecargados, y yo os daré descanso. Tomad
sobre vosotros mi yugo, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y
humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas.
Porque mi yugo es suave y mi carga ligera...’”
Siempre es especial dar un vistazo a Jesús en oración, en
conversación con el Padre. Lo encontramos hablándole antes
de levantar a Lázaro de entre los muertos, luego de la Ultima
Cena en el jardín de Getsemaní, y hoy, cuando le ofrece
alabanza al Padre, y nos invita a aprender de El.
Este fin de semana celebraremos y nos tomaremos un
descanso del trabajo y actividades. Dejamos nuestras cargas
y buscamos descanso en el Señor. Las escrituras hablan de
las dos virtudes especiales que encontramos en el Señor:
mansedumbre y humildad. Es interesante que estas son dos
de nuestras metas a medida que leemos Sus instrucciones en
las bienaventuranzas en el Sermón de la Montaña.
Mansedumbre abarca gentiliza y amabilidad. Humildad alberga
honestidad y franqueza. A medida que yo busco acoger a
Jesús y aprender de El, pido que estas virtudes sean parte de
mi vida. El es el modelo, nosotros seguimos Su ejemplo.
Hacemos de ésta nuestra meta de cada día, no sólo cuando
buscamos un cambio de ritmo como en este fin de semana
del Día de la Independencia, sino que a través de los años
conscientemente nos esforzamos a aprender de El.

y $10 adicional por hermano (a).
