What is the Jubilee Holy Year of Mercy?
In April, Pope Francis announced in his papal bull
Misericordiae Vultus that a Jubilee Year of Mercy will begin
on the Feast of Immaculate Conception in Dec. 8, 2015 and
end on the Feast of Christ the King in Nov. 20, 2016.
To read the entire papal bull, google Misericordiae Vultus.
In the document, Pope Francis explained that mercy is not only
an act of God, but something all of us should be practicing in
our daily lives. “We need constantly to contemplate the
mystery of mercy. It is a wellspring of joy, serenity and peace.
Our salvation depends on it.”
Events throughout the Jubilee Year of Mercy will reemphasize
and promote both the corporal and spiritual works of mercy
that all Catholics are encourage to undertake.
Corporal Works of Mercy:
Feed the hungry
Give drink to the thirsty
Clothe the naked
Shelter the homeless
Visit the sick
Visit the imprisoned
Bury the dead
Spiritual Works of Mercy:
Counsel the doubtful
Comfort the sorrowful
Admonish the sinner
Instruct the ignorant
Bear wrongs patiently
Forgive all injuries
Pray for the living and the dead

Catedral de Santo Tomás More.
viva.
