Medication
If your child needs to take any
type of medication at school,
prescription or over the counter, (this
includes cough drops) a PARENT MUST
BRING THE MEDICATION into the
office. Please do not send it with your
child. It must be in the original container,
with all the directions for usage. Also,
you must sign a permission slip for the
school to give the medication to your
child.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
BREAKFASTS/LUNCHES
This is a reminder that breakfasts and
lunches are FREE FOR ALL
ENROLLED STUDENTS. The only
charges would be for extra milks or extra
food or if a student had only a milk with a
cold lunch.
Peterson School is participating in
the Box Tops for Education
program and has already earned
cash to benefit our school. If you
have any box tops to donate,
please deliver them to the office.

VOLUNTEERING AT SCHOOL
Volunteers in any school in Klamath County School district are
required to pass background checks before doing so. People who
wish to volunteer in the classroom or accompany a child on a field
trip must visit the office and fill out a Criminal History Verification of
Volunteers form. You may volunteer once your application is
cleared.
HAVING LUNCH WITH YOUR CHILD
You are more than welcome to come and have lunch with your
children. When you do come for lunch, you are required to come
into the office so that you can sign in, get a visitor’s pass and pay
for your lunch. Thank you.
SPECIAL OCCASIONS & VALENTINE PARTIES
We know that birthdays, good citizen awards, and holidays are very
important to your child. If you wish to bring treats (store bought) for a
birthday, please let the teacher know ahead of time. However, flowers,
balloons, stuffed animals, etc. cannot be delivered to your child at school
because they disrupt the learning environment. Party invitations of any
kind are not to be passed out at school. The teachers will send more
information home about their Valentine Parties.
COLD WEATHER IS HERE!!!!!!!
Exercise and fresh air help children do their best work. For this reason,
we feel it is important for the children to establish good health habits. Our school
policy states that children may only stay in from recess one day at a time as long
as they have a note from their parent/guardian. An exception to this would be a
doctor’s note when returning to school from an extended illness. Students need
to dress properly. Coats, hats, gloves, and snow boots are needed. If your child
does not have boots, an extra pair of shoes and socks would be good for them to
change into if their shoes do get wet. As long as the weather is not severe, the
students will have all their recesses outside.
SBAC-Smarter Balanced Assessment
Guidelines for requesting a student opt out of state required testing:
The State of Oregon requires school districts to test students using the Smarter Balanced assessment in
grades 3 thru 8 and in grade 11. Districts are required to test 95% of all students and 95% of students in
specifically defined groups identified on the annual school report card.
Parents and adult students are allowed to opt out of state required testing in accordance with Oregon
law. The opt out procedure has been defined by the Oregon Department of Education, and the
required forms are available on the district’s website under the tab marked for “Parents.” The Oregon
Department of Education allows only this official form to be used to request a student be “opted out”
of testing. Opt out forms must be filled out completely and signed by the parent or adult student in the
presence of a school official. Opt out forms must be received prior to the start of student testing.


por exclusión voluntaria:
El estado de Oregon requiere que los distritos escolares examinen a estudiantes utilizando la Smarter
Balanced Assessment en los grados 3 al 8 y en el grado 11. Los distritos están obligados a administrar el
examen a 95% de todos los estudiantes y el 95% de los estudiantes en grupos específicamente
definidos, identificados en la tarjeta anual de calificaciones.
Los padres y los estudiantes, como parte de la ley estatal, pueden decidir voluntariamente no participar
en el examen de Smarter Balanced Assessment. El procedimiento de exención ha sido definido por el
