FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
Has there been a change in the dress code? I am often asked this question in
the various meetings we have with our families. Our dress code has not
changed. We still wear red or blue polos with khaki pants, shorts or skirts.
What has changed (slightly) is our fun days. Fridays, we
wear our Memorial T-shirts with jeans, shorts or skirts of
any kind. The T-shirts can be from this year or they can be
any Memorial T-shirts from the past. This is the day to celebrate the completion of another great week and our Memorial pride!
Wednesday is our college focus day. Students may wear any
college T-shirt. We have found many inexpensive ones at
stores such as Wal-Mart, Target and Academy. I am a big
fan of the clearance rack! College shirts can be worn with any pant, short or
skirt like Memorial pride day. As we are leaning into this change, we know it
may take time to get a college shirt. You may continue to wear casual clothes
as we have done in the past. We encourage you to get college shirts when you
can as it is a small part of the journey our children are taking into selecting a
college.

OPEN HOUSE
This Thursday (9-19) will be our Fall Open House!
We are excited to show off our great classrooms
and the work our amazing students are doing. Each
teacher and their class is deciding how they want to
have parents encounter Memorial Elementary.
The doors will open at 5:30 and we will be here until 6:30 waiting
to welcome you into the classrooms. Don’t forget to visit the library, Coach Anderson and our computer lab teacher, Ms. Villarreal.

THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN!
Tuesday, in an amazing display of the
democratic process, our 2013-2014 Student Council Leaders were chosen. They
are: Michelle Aguiluz as President, Sage
Jones as Vice President, William Blancett
as Secretary and Amia Gutierrez as Historian. We are proud of all of our candidates. Each gave heartfelt speeches and
shared why they wanted to serve as
leaders for Memorial’s Student Council.
Students in grades second to fifth
poured into the cafeteria to hear the
speeches and then students third
through fifth, voted in their classes.
“Our Student Council members and Student Council Leaders are a reflection of
the greater student body.” said Mrs.
Rozas, StuCo Faculty Rep.
“I am proud to have such great kids
helping to lead our campus” said Ms.
Salazar on Tuesday. Student Council
Leaders and the greater Student Council
will be meeting soon to identify how
they will make their mark on the community and how to best serve Memorial
Elementary.

FALL FESTIVAL
This year our Fall Festival
will be held on September 27th from 3:30 until
6:00! This is a Memorial
tradition that has been
celebrated for longer than
we can remember.
Parents, your teacher will
be calling you soon to
recruit you to help in the
creation and running of
their booth. I know they
will appreciate your help.
Our annual garage is in
full effect. Please drop off
any items you want to
donate to the office and
we will get them in the
right hands!
REGISTER ONCE, COUNT DAILY
Mrs. Martinez has worked at Memorial for six
years. She first started working here as a student
helper. So far she has been in charge of textbooks, helping our students learn English and
getting everyone their lunch numbers. This year,
she took on an even bigger challenge. Mrs. Martinez is our student information representative. What does that
mean you ask? It means she registers and maintains all of our
student files. Additionally, she submits our students’ daily attendance to the district and state.
Ms. Martinez was born here in Houston, Texas. She is the
mother of four wonderful children. She loves to cook and enjoys
the outdoors. When asked what her favorite and least favorite
things to count were, she said she most likes to count her time
outdoors. She least likes to count the number of dishes in her
sink at home needing to be washed after dinner. We can relate,
Ms. Martinez!

PREGUNTAS FRECUENTES
Ha habido algún cambio en el código de vestido? Siempre me han hecho esta pregunta en las
juntas que he tenido con nuestras familias. Nuestro código de vestido no ha cambiado. Seguimos usando camisas rojas o azules, con pantalones khaki , shorts o faldas. Lo que ha cambiado, un poquito ha sido nuestros días casuales. Los viernes, usamos nuestras franelas de Memorial con blue-jeans, pantalones cortos, o faldas de
cualquier tipo. Las playeras pueden ser las de este año o cualquier otra
franela de Memorial obtenida en el pasado. En este día celebramos el
culmino de otra gran semana y además nuestro orgullo de Memorial!
Miércoles es nuestro día de enfocarnos con la universidad. Los estudiantes pueden utilizar cualquier camisa de cualquier universidad. Hemos
encontrado muchas, que no son costosas, en tiendas como Walmart,
Target y Academy. Yo soy muy fanática del las repisas con rebajas! Las
camisas de las universidades pueden ser usadas con blue-jeans, pantalones cortos, o faldas de cualquier tipo, al igual que se hace los viernes. Mientras estos cambios
ocurren, sabemos que puede llevar tiempo comprar una camisa de una universidad. Pueden
seguir usando ropa casual como lo han hecho en el pasado. Los invitamos a comprar las
camisas de las universidades de su preferencia cuando pueda, Esta es una pequeña parte en
el camino de nuestros niños antes de seleccionar una universidad.
OPEN HOUSE
Este jueves (9-19) nuestro Open House! Estamos ansiosos por ensenarles nuestros bello salones de clases y el
trabajo que nuestros maravillosos estudiantes están
haciendo. Cada maestro y sus estudiante están decidiendo como quieren ellos que los padres encuentre
Memorial Elementary.
Las puertas se abrirán a las 5:30 y estaremos aquí hasta las 6:30 para
darles la bienvenida en nuestros salones. No se olviden de visitar la
biblioteca, Coach Anderson, y a nuestra maestra de computación, Ms.
Villarreal.
Este año tendremos un libro del año( a yearbook), y tendremos una
mesa para atraerlos y para contestar pregunta que puedan tener.

LA POBLACION ESTUDIANTIL HABLÓ!
El martes, con un extraordinario ejemplo del
proceso democrático, fueron electos nuestros líderes estudiantiles para el año 20132014. Ellos son: Michelle Aguiluz como Presidente, Sage Jones como Vice Presidente,
William Blancett como Secretario and Amia
Gutiérrez como Historiadora. Estamos orgullosos de nuestros candidatos. Cada uno nos
dio un discurso con mucho corazón y compartieron con nosotros el porqué de sus deseos de ser líderes de nuestro estudiantado.
Los estudiantes de segundo a quinto grado
llenaron la cafetería para escuchar sus discursos, y luego, los estudiantes de tercero a
quinto votaron en sus clases.

“Estoy orgullosa de tener estos maravillosos

Ms. Salazar este martes. Los líderes electos
junto al resto de los miembros del cuerpo de
estudiantes se reunirán muy pronto, para
identificar las inquietudes de los estudiantes,
como servir a la comunidad, y lo más importante, como servir mejor a Memorial Elementary.

FALL FESTIVAL
Este año nuestro festival de
Otoño se celebrara el 27 de
Septiembre desde las 3:30
hasta las 6:00! Esta es una
tradición en Memorial que se
ha celebrado desde que podemos acordarnos.

Mrs. Martínez ha trabajado en Memorial por seis
años. Al principio, trabajó como ayudante de los
estudiantes. Hasta ahora ha trabajado también a
cargo de los libros de texto y ayudando a los estudiantes a aprender Inglés. Este año tiene un reto
