Psalm 98
My Dear People,
Mis Queridos Feligreses,
The Feast of Christ the King was established by Pope
Pius XI in 1925 as a response to the growth in extremist
nationalism and secularism. Loyalty to political structures has value, but once it becomes a higher priority
than loyalty to God, we are in trouble. I need not go
through examples of this as they are abundantly plentiful. However, previously these movements were subtle
and gradual. In recent years they have become much
more aggressive. Included with the bulletin this weekend I have included an article that I believe puts things
very clearly, though not gently. Please read this with
your family and share it widely.
The time has come to declare openly and boldly our
relationship with the Kingdom of God and its divinely
established servant, the Catholic Church.
No necesito ir a través

Pilgrimage to Fatima for 100th Anniversary
Join us for the Archdiocesan pilgrimage in honor of the 100th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions in
Fatima, Portugal! This Pilgrimage promises to be a deeply spiritual event in communion with the
Mother of the Lord, with prayers for peace and healing for all of us. We’ll visit Fatima, Lourdes and
other major shrines. June 5-12, 2017 For more information and pricing, visit archphila.org/fatima.
The Annual Retirement Fund for Religious Collection will be held at parishes throughout the
Archdiocese of Philadelphia on the weekend of December 3-4, 2016. This effort is coordinated by the
National Religious Retirement Office and offers financial support for the day to day care of over 33,000
senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests throughout the country. Last year, the
Archdiocese contributed over $129,077 to this collection. In 2016, local religious orders received a
combined total of over $1.1 million dollars in financial assistance made possible by the national appeal.
The Retirement Fund for Religious Collection was initiated in 1988 by the Catholic Bishops of the United States to address the significant lack of retirement funding among Catholic religious
communities in the United States. Proceeds are distributed to eligible communities to help underwrite
retirement and health-care expenses. Nearly 95 percent of every donation directly supports senior
religious and their communities.
