Looking for ways to get through the dog days of
summer? Join Paws to Read and spend some time in
the library reading books, magazines, playing games,
and going to our fun programs.
Paws to Read-to-Me is for children who have not yet
learned to read. Complete the activities on your “pawsport” to earn a free book.
Paws to Read is for children through grade 5 who read
on their own. Read 10 books, record them on your book
log, and come to the Question Desk for your free book.
But don’t stop there – keep reading for both programs!
For every additional 5 books read or activity completed,
you can enter our end-of-the-summer raffle to win more
prizes.
Sign up and keep track of your reading progress online
or via your favorite handheld device. It’s as easy as 1-2-3
and great for summer vacations! You can even post
reviews about books and give star ratings.
To sign up from home or in the library:
•Visit urbanafreelibrary.org or
CU Catalog and click on the Summer
Reading Program logo.
•Select Paws to Read-to-Me or
Paws to Read and click on the Sign Me Up button.
•Fill in all the required fields, and be sure to include
your email address!
•Click on the Add/View Log to record and review books
you’ve read and keep track of your reading progress.
Book prizes will start being given out June 21.
Drawings for the raffle will be held August 31. Book prizes for the Summer Reading Program
are funded by the Friends of The Urbana Free Library.

This summer, the library will host a wide range of activities for children and their
families that encourage and support a love of reading. Here are just a few of the
programs offered this summer. For dates and times, pick-up a calendar at the library
or visit the library’s e-calendar at urbanafreelibrary.org.
• HISSSSSS! Slither and Crawl along with snakes and turtles when the Anita
Purves Nature Center share their reptiles with us.
• Beat the heat with a Frozen Party.
• Wear your PJs to the library for a family Movie Night.
• Join us outside on Cherry Alley for a Bubble Blast and Snazzy Sidewalk Chalk.
• Can’t have a pet? Come make your own at our Pet Rock program.
• Learn about photography and ceramic beading at our Art Lessons.
• Get back to nature with our Butterflies & Birds program.
• Not only Read to the Dogs this summer, but Read to the Horses too!
• Learn about Birds of Prey, with the UIUC Veterinarian Medical bird ambassadors.
• See your favorite children’s’ book come to life with a Clothespin Puppet Show.
• Show off your pets at our end of the summer Pet Show.
• Don’t forget our regularly scheduled programs: Babies’ Lap Time, Toddler Time,
and Preschool Story Time.
• And all summer long, you can catch us at the Market on the Square every third
Saturday – come by to hear a story or two on our Magic Reading Carpet.
