To the Media:
We want to make a public complaint against this detention center, since they are
committing outrages that we can no longer allow to continue.
This past Wednesday, September 21, one of our companions suffered a physical
deterioration (headaches, dizziness, vomiting, stomach pain and finally a fainting) caused
by stress due to her prolonged period detention. Tomorrow she will have been 400 days in
this place. That day, her daughters aged 14 and 16 years were with her from the beginning.
It was one of her daughters who was with her when she fainted and sought help for her,
and then went for help at the medical department, who called the ambulance when they
realized her mother was very ill. She was transferred to the nearest hospital, where she
underwent several analyses to discover the cause of her symptoms. They reached the
conclusion that she needed to have an operation to remove her gall bladder.
The operation took place in the afternoon of Thursday, the 22nd of this month. Although
her daughters wanted to be with her at all times they were only allowed them to take turns
so as not leave her alone. One took care of her in the morning, while the other took care of
her throughout the night.
On Friday the 23rd she was returned to the detention center. Throughout all that time our
lawyers spent a lot of time in the hospital trying to get information from the hospital about
her condition, which was decidedly denied to them. Neither the daughters nor the mother
were informed that their lawyers were present in the waiting room.
The recommendations of the doctor were as follows: Maintaining a healthy as well as a
strictly fat and dairy free diet, and to slowly begin walking while her body was stabilizing
itself.
But to begin with she is not in the medical department, but in her own room, without a
nurse, only cared for by her own daughters. They take her to the bathroom she needs to go,
they are the ones who change her clothes. This morning they went to ask for her food
according to her prescribed diet and were told they had to wait for the medical department
to authorize it, without this nothing could be done.
Until now she has only been able to eat a banana with honey breakfast that her daughters
have provided for her. For lunch the daughters went to ask for her food, as it was not
brought to her room. But, they were told their mother had to go to the dining room to eat
and that they could not take food outside of the dining room. The daughters had no choice
but break the rules; they felt obligated to take hidden food to their mother.
To date, they have not yet given their mother, her prescribed diet. The medical department
has said that she had to eat the same as all the residents all residents and if that hurts her
they could then give her the diet recommended by doctors at the hospital. Many of the
residents offered to help her because her (the mother's) daughters are too young to care
for their mother because they are minors and are not trained to do so, but what the staff
does is to remove us from her room and not allowing us to assist her in her needs, but
neither do they help her.
Today her sister came to visit her, and one of her daughters went to ask permission for her
to use the elevator to get down to the first floor in order to receive her sister's visit. The
medical department said that if she wanted to receive her visit that she had to walk down
the stairs. She had no option but to not receive her family, not to see them, not to talk to
them, because her condition is delicate and she has much pain. In addition because they do
not give her, her required diet her family brought her natural fruit, with an expiration date
as is required here in the center to authorize it, but even so they did not give permission
and thus did not allow it.
All this is inhumane. We believe it is lack of sensitivity on the part of immigration and of
county, we think it is not just and we want justice to be done by her immediately being let
go from the center, so that she can be taken care of by actual trained and professional staff.
She then could also be with her husband and family to give her the love and affection she
needs at this time.

Queremos hacer una denuncia pública en contra de este centro de detención, ya que se están
cometiendo arbitrariedades que ya no podemos seguir permitiendo...
El pasado miércoles 21 de septiembre, una de nuestras compañeras sufrió un decaimiento físico
(dolor de cabeza, mareo, vómito, dolor de estomago y finalmente un desmayo) causado por el
estrés debido al tiempo prolongado en detención. Mañana cumple 400 días de estar en este lugar.
Ese día, sus hijas de 14 y 16 años estuvieron acompañándola desde el principio. Fue una de sus
hijas la que estaba con ella cuando se desmayó y busco auxiliarla, luego fue en busca de ayuda al
departamento médico, quienes llamaron a la ambulancia al ver que ella estaba muy mal. Fue
transferida al hospital más cercano a este centro, le hicieron varios análisis para saber a qué se
debían los síntomas y se llegó a la conclusión que tenía que ser intervenida quirúrgicamente para
extraerle la vesícula.
La operación se llevo a cabo el jueves 22 del corriente mes, en las horas de la tarde. Aunque sus
hijas querían estar a todo momento con ella, solo les permitieron turnarse para no dejarla sola una la cuidaba en la mañana y la otra se iba toda la noche. El viernes 23 fue regresada al centro
de detención.
En todo ese lapso nuestras abogadas estuvieron mucho tiempo en el hospital tratando de recibir
información por parte del hospital y se las negaron rotundamente. Ni se les informó ni a las
niñas, ni a la madre, que sus abogadas estaban presentes en la sala de espera.
Las recomendaciones del médico fueron las siguientes: Tener una dieta estricta, libre de grasas,
fuera de lácteos, y lo más saludable posible, y empezar a caminar poco a poco para que su
cuerpose fuera estabilizando.
Pero para empezar ella no está en el departamento médico, sino, en su propio cuarto, sin
enfermera, solo al cuidado de sus propias hijas. Ellas la llevan al baño cuando tiene necesidad, le
cambian la ropa. Hoy en la mañana fueron a pedir su comida de dieta y le dijeron que tenían que
esperar que el departamento médico la autorizara, de lo contrario no podían hacer nada. Hasta
este momento ella solo ha podido comer un banano con miel de desayuno que sus
hijas le han proveído. Para el almuerzo las hijas llegaron a pedir su comida ya que no se la
quisieron llevar a su cuarto, pero su respuesta fue que ella tenía que ir al comedor a comer y que
no podían sacar comida fuera del comedor. Las hijas no tuvieron otra alternativa, sino romper las
reglas, se vieron obligadas a llevar comida escondida para su madre. Todavía no le han dado la
dieta adecuada. El departamento médico ha dicho que ella tenía que comer lo mismo que todos
los residentes y que si eso le hace daño podrían después darle la dieta recomendada por los
médicos del hospital.
Muchas de las residentes nos ofrecemos para ayudarle ya que sus hijas están muy pequeñas para
el cuidado de su madre ya que son menores de edad y no están capacitadas para hacerlo, pero lo
que el staff hace es que nos sacan de su cuarto y no nos permiten asistirla en sus necesidades
pero tampoco ellos la ayudan.
Hoy su hermana vino a visitarla, y una de sus hijas fue a pedir permiso para que pudiera usar el
ascensor para bajar al primer piso a recibir su visita y el departamento médico dijo que si quería
ver a su visita tenía que bajar por las escaleras. No le quedó opción sino de no recibir a su
familia, no los ha visto, no a podido hablar con ellos ya que su estado es delicado y tiene mucho
dolor. Además debido a que no le dan su dieta requerida su familia le trajo fruta natural, con
fecha de vencimiento como es pedido aquí en el centro para poder autorizarla y ni así se la
permitieron.
Todo esto es inhumano. Creemos que es falta de sensibilidad por parte de inmigración y el
condado, pensamos que no es justo y queremos que se haga justicia para que ella salga
inmediatamente del centro, para que sea atendida por personal capacitado y profesional de
verdad. Así mismo ella estaría con su esposo y su familia para darle el amor y cariño que
necesita en estos momentos.
