Literature Rules
All participants must also follow General Rules for Participation.
Description
Literature entries may be a work of fiction or nonfiction. Prose, poetry and drama are all accepted. The entry
must relate to the Reflections® Program theme. Whether an entry uses a variety of techniques or a simple
approach, it will be judged primarily on how well the student uses his or her artistic vision to portray the
theme.
Presentation & Format
* Entries must not exceed 2,000 words.
* Entries may be handwritten or typed.
* Include page numbers & include student name on back of each page.
* Illustrated entries, including “books,” with pictures drawn by the student are acceptable; however, only
literary content is judged.
* Collections of poems or short stories are not accepted.
*Entries are to reflect grade-appropriate grammar, punctuation and spelling.
*Do not mount or mat literature entries.
Dictation and Typing
* Students may have their entries typed by another person as long as the original work or a copy of the original
work is attached.
* Students in pre-school, kindergarten or 1st grade may dictate to another person who may print or type exact
words as spoken by the student.
* Transcribers should make every attempt to retain the same level of language and accuracy that is reflected in
the student’s original work.
Translation
* Students for whom English is not their first language may submit literature entries in their own language. An
interpretive translation in English must accompany the entry.
* Translators should make every attempt to retain the same level of language and accuracy that is reflected in
the student’s original work.
Submission Instructions: Follow your guidelines regarding required submission format.
A. Paper format of literary entry:
*Submit literature works on 8.5 x 11 paper.
* Submit envelope to your PTA Reflections Chair containing the original entry plus 2 (two) paper copies
of literature entry and your student entry form.

Descripción
Las participaciones de literatura pueden ser una obra de ficción o de no ficción. Se aceptan prosa, poesía y
obras de teatro. La participación se debe relacionar con el tema actual del Programa Reflections® de National
PTA. Ya sea que la participación use una variedad de técnicas o un solo abordaje, se evaluará principalmente
respecto de cuán bien el estudiante usa su visión artística para representar el tema.
Presentación y format
* Las participaciones no deben superar las 2,000 palabras.
* Las participaciones pueden ser manuscritas o mecanografiadas.
* Incluya los números de páginas y el nombre del estudiante en el reverso de cada página.
* Las participaciones ilustradas, incluidos "libros", con imágenes dibujadas por el estudiante son aceptables;
sin embargo, sólo se juzga el contenido literario.
*No se aceptan compilaciones de poemas o cuentos cortos.
* Las participaciones han de reflejar gramática, puntuación y ortografía adecuadas al grado.
Dictado y escritura a máquina
*Las participaciones de los estudiantes pueden estar mecanografiadas por otra persona siempre que se
adjunte el trabajo original o una copia del mismo.
* Los estudiantes en preescolar, kindergarten o primer grado pueden dictar a otra persona que puede escribir
o mecanografiar las palabras exactas que dice el estudiante.
* Los transcriptores deben hacer lo mejor posible para retener el mismo nivel de lenguaje y precisión que se
refleja en el trabajo original del estudiante
Traducción
* Los estudiantes cuyo primer idioma no es el inglés pueden presentar participaciones en literatura en su
propio idioma. Una traducción interpretativa en inglés debe acompañar la participación.
* Los traductores deben hacer lo mejor posible para retener el mismo nivel de lenguaje y precisión que se
refleja en el trabajo original del estudiante.

A. Formato en papel para la participación en literatura:
*Los trabajos de literatura se deben presentar hojas de 8.5 x 11.
*Envíe el sobre al Encargado de Reflections de PTA con dos copias en papel de la participación en
literatura y la forma de participación del estudiante.
