LITERATURE is the art of writing. The author (student submitting
entry) is a person who expresses their own thoughts and ideas
through the use of words. Authors submit a single literary work,
handwritten or typed, using grade-appropriate grammar, punctuation
and spelling. Collections of literary work (such as poems and short
stories) are not accepted.
Consider the following literary styles to portray your original work
of fiction or nonfiction: Prose, Poetry, Drama, Reflective essay,
Narrative, Short story.
An explanation of the storyline and/or the significance of the literature
style might be a useful addition to the artist statement. Whether an
entry displays formal writing technique or a simple approach, it will
be judged primarily on how well the student uses his or her artistic
vision to portray the theme, originality and creativity. Illustrated
entries, including books, with pictures drawn by the student author
are acceptable; however, only literary content is judged.
Acceptable Use of Type, Dictation and Translation:
 Be typed by another person as long as the original work or a copy of
the original work is attached.
 Be dictated to another person and printed or typed in exact words as
spoken by the student if the student is in pre-school, kindergarten or
1st grade. (Transcribers should make every attempt to retain the same
level of language and accuracy that is reflected in the student’s
original work).
 Students for whom English is not their first language may submit
literature entries in their own language. An interpretive translation
in English must accompany the entry.
 Translators should make every attempt to retain the same level of
language and accuracy that is reflected in the student’s original work.
Copyright: Use of copyrighted material is prohibited. Plagiarized
entries will be disqualified.
Submission Requirements:
 Only new pieces of artwork inspired by the theme may be submitted.
 Each entry must be the original work of one student only.
 Entry must not exceed 2,000 words.
 Hand written & typed entries are accepted on 8.5x11 paper (one sided
only).
 Number each page.
 Include student name, entry title, arts category and division on back
of entry.
 Submit literature plus 2 (two) copies and student entry form
according to your PTA’s instructions.
State Specific Instructions: Students must follow state specific
requirements and instructions.
LITERATURA es el arte de la escritura. El autor (estudiante que
presenta una obra) es una persona que expresa sus propios
pensamientos e ideas mediante el uso de palabras. Los autores
presentan una sola obra literaria, escrita a mano o a máquina,
utilizando el grado apropiado de gramática, puntuación y ortografía.
No se aceptan recolecciones de obras literarias (como poemas y
cuentos cortos).
Considere los siguientes estilos literarios para retratar su obra
original de ficción o no ficción: Prosa, poesía, drama, ensayo
reflexivo, narración, cuento corto.
Una explicación de la historia o de la importancia del estilo de la
película puede ser una adición útil a la declaración del artista. Si una
obra muestra una técnica de escritura formal o un enfoque simple,
será juzgada principalmente según cuán bien el estudiante utiliza su
visión artística para representar el tema, su originalidad y su
creatividad. Las obras ilustradas, incluyendo los libros, con imágenes
dibujadas por el estudiante autor son aceptables; sin embargo, se
juzgará únicamente el contenido literario.
Uso aceptable del tipo, dictado y traducción:
 Que sea escrita por otra persona mientras que la obra original o una
copia de la obra original estén adjuntas.
 Que sea dictada a otra persona e impresa o escrita a máquina
textualmente según lo narrado por el estudiante si el estudiante está
en preescolar, jardín de infantes o 1er grado. (Los transcriptores
deben hacer todo lo posible para mantener el mismo nivel de
lenguaje y precisión que se refleja en la obra original del estudiante).
 Los estudiantes cuya primera lengua no sea el inglés pueden enviar
las obras literarias en su propio idioma. Una traducción
interpretativa en inglés deberá acompañar a la obra.
 Los traductores deben hacer todo lo posible para mantener el mismo
nivel de lenguaje y precisión que se refleja en la obra original del
estudiante.
Derechos de autor: Queda prohibido el uso del material con derechos
de autor. Las presentaciones plagiadas serán descalificadas.
Requisitos de presentación:
 Se podrán presentar solamente piezas nuevas de arte inspiradas en el
tema.
 Cada presentación debe ser una obra original de un solo estudiante.
 La presentación no debe exceder las 2,000 palabras.
 Se aceptan presentaciones escritas a mano y a máquina en hojas de
8.5x11 (de una cara solamente).
 Numerar cada página.
 Incluir el nombre del estudiante, el título, la categoría artística y la
división en la parte posterior de la presentación.
 Enviar la obra literaria con 2 (dos) copias y el formulario de
inscripción del estudiante según las instrucciones de su PTA.
Instrucciones estatales específicas: Los estudiantes deben seguir las
instrucciones y los requisitos específicos del estado.
