Adult Basic Education (ABE)
ABE classes help adults learn or improve basic skills and/or prepare for the GED® test. Classes include reading,
writing, math, science, social studies, workplace skills, health, consumer education, family literacy and basic
computer skills. Computer assisted instruction is available. Students must be 16 or older and not currently
enrolled in high school. Registration is ongoing. Students may start on regular class start dates (see next page).

GED® Preparation
GED® Preparation classes are for adults who are 16 years old or older, who are not enrolled in high school and
who wish to improve their ability to pass the GED test. To give adults flexibility to prepare for this high-school
equivalency exam, students may choose from two instructional methods: online or classroom. Our counselors
will help you decide which option is best for you! Registration is ongoing. Students may start on regular class
start dates (see next page).

GED® Testing
Manatee Tech West Campus Adult Education Center is the official GED® Testing Center for all of Manatee
County. GED testing is available in English and Spanish. For more information on testing, call 941.209.6800 x

English as a Second Language (ESL)
ESL classes are available to adults who want to learn English at their own pace. Courses include English
language studies, civics, citizenship, consumer education, cultural awareness, family literacy, career planning and
personal development. Students must be 18 or older and not currently enrolled in high school. Registration is
ongoing. Students may start on regular class start dates (see below).
Las clases de ESL están disponibles para los adultos que quieren aprender Inglés a su propio paso. El curso
incluye estudios del idioma inglés, educación cívica, la educación del consumidor, la conciencia cultural,
alfabetización familiar, la planificación de carrera y desarrollo personal. Los estudiantes deben tener 18 años o
más y no estar inscritos actualmente en la escuela secundaria. Las inscripciones estan abiertas todos los días, sin
embargo los estudiantes solamente pueden empezar clases los días identificados como “start date.”
