repente, ocurrió y se acabó)

(la acción de jugar al rugby estaba en curso, había empezado y no había
terminado)

(Aquí tenemos dos acciones que estaban en curso simultáneamente, al mismo
tiempo, no hablamos en absoluto de cuando terminaron, sino de que estaban
ocurriendo)

(La acción de nadir estaba en curso y mientras se estaba desarrolando la de ver
las ranas ocurrió y se acabó. Otra cosa sería haber estado mirando las ranas. ver
conviene más para past simple, mirar (watch) para continuo)
