¡Muy buenas! I hope lots of you had a chance to stop by the Open House on Sunday! It is always such a nice opportunity to visit all of the classrooms and see the terrific things going on at school. I also heard about a play that was a big success, felicidades to all! Today we started Spanish class with a visit from Señor Patata (Mr. Potato Head), who helped us review the parts of the body in Spanish. After we practiced the words for eyes, ears, nose mouth etc, and said the color of each, Senor Patata sang “Cabeza-Hombros-Rodillas-Pies” for us, which was pretty funny because a patata doesn’t really have hombros or rodillas. You can use your own toys at home (dolls, stuffed animals etc) to do the same game: Point to eyes, ears, mouth, hands and see if your kids remember the words. (No worries if they don’t!) After our warm-up, we had a visit from an old friend: Toso the Oso, who reminded us about what we need to wear in winter. We sang the song about winter clothes, and then Toso told us that he is a Papá (Daddy), and that he had brought along his familia! Out came Mamá, un hermano, una hermana and a little bebé. (Each of the bears was wearing a little camisa, and the kids told me the colors). We practiced the family words with the familia de osos, and then we looked at pictures of other “famous” familias for further practice. Mis amigos recognized some from books and videos, very exciting! (A few mentioned some brand new bebés, and a few on the way, congratulations to all the new and soon to be parents!) After that, we looked at a different family, and saw that there were abuelos in this one (a grandfather and grandmother), as well as a perro and a gato. The toddlers read a story about a mamá and bebé called ¿Para quién es este besito? We will take a break from Spanish for a few weeks. I will see mis amigos again the first week of March. ¡Hasta entonces! Ms. Meg Elsa y Ana son hermanas ¿Cuántos hermanos hay? Cuentos y canciones Cuento ¿Para quién es este besito?
