Málaga goats on the up!
Málaga province, like so much of Spain, has seen
herds of goats roaming its hillsides for generations
but now the Málaga race are getting more and
more recognition. They are very adaptable in arid
conditions and this particular breed can produce
up to 900litres of milk a year whilst the animals are
fertile almost all year round. Apparently it is only the
females
The local paper has been running a competition
called “My Goat” and has asked artists to make their
own interpretation of the animal.
We’re not kidding, but the females are
It is estimated that there are 300,000 examples of the Málaga goat in Spain – with two thirds
of this total being found within the province. 70 million litres of goats’ milk are produced in
Málaga province each year which gives work to 20 creameries making cheese.
The production of goat meat – and of course it is kid that is particularly valued - amounts
to 2million kilos in Málaga – worth approximately 20million euros. Cheese and other milk
products are far more important though and over three times as much income is generated
by these. The goats’ cheese salad on our main menú has been a firm favourite all season and
we offer roast kid when it is in season..
The Málaga goats are now being exported to start herds in Morocco and México and a milkprocessing plant is planned for 2014 in a village near the provincial capital.
It seems as though the future for the Maálga goat breed is more than assured – which is great
news for people who love to hear the bells and see the animals in the sierras of Ronda as well
as for those who enjoy consuming the delicious products that they provide.
Yoga group
Weir warriors
We have had the pleasure of welcoming
Guernsey Power Yoga to Molino over the
last few days. It has been a pleasure to have
them with us. They are making full use of
our meeting room above the dining room
for classes at all times of day - starting with
meditation classes every morning at 0630.
Andy did get to one of these - and what a
lovely way to start the day it is. They are
the first group ever to use our facilities
even before our maintenance and breakfast
staff arrive at 0700. Thank you to Caroline
Wickham for her very efficient organisation
and the lovely atmosphere she has created
with her group.
Yoga - a varied week of activities
Monkey business
We have now held the first of our four meditational
meetings with a Buddhist monk, Tharpa. The event
was well-attended and very enlightening it was
too. The next one is on the 19th October from 10
am to 2pm. The meeting is held in Spanish but the
messages being communicated and the atmosphere
generated mean that language is not a huge barrier.
No need to book, just turn up. 15€ per session.
Hotel bookings
Having had lots of near misses, we have just seen our first 100% week of the season - every
single room full every single night for the whole week. Thank you so much to everyone who
has supported us this year - and we are very sorry if we have had to tell you we were full when
you wanted to visit.
The hotel is very busy until we close but we can offer you a 10% discount on a new booking
for any room still available if you mention this newsletter. There are some rooms still available
from the 21st to the 27th October at the moment. Go on - grab a break whilst you can.
2014 bookings are continuing to be very good - and we can also offer you a 10% discount on
any room booked before the 31st October - and 5% thereafter.
Thanks to all for their support in 2013 - it’s been a great year for us, thanks to you, our excellent
staff and our suppliers.
