Rae’na Lilly Spring­ E 11/10/14 Sugar Skull/Mask Spanish & English Written Portions English My grandmother was the one who passed away and is the one who is symbolized through my skull and mask. She died when I was younger but I can still remember her slightly. I decided to create my sugar skull in remembrance of my grandmother (honestly) because she was the only one in my family that has passed away. My skull reflects my grandmother mostly through the colors I used. I used an array of colors and glitter because she was a happy person. I colored the majority of the skull blue because that was her favorite color. I made her hair purple because she lost her hair to chemo for pancreatic cancer (purple is the color associated with this type of cancer). Dia de Los Muertos has opened my mind to actually talking about and remembering my grandmother because, in my family, we just decided to not talk about her her and try to forget about her after she was cremated.
