Advocacy Prayer
O Divine Creator,
You hold us in the palm of your hand..
In your eyes, all life has dignity;
All people are worthy of your love and care.
None are left alone, none left behind:
those who have no livelihood;
the sick, the elderly and the mentally challenged;
the imprisoned and the immigrant;
All are your children, equally worthy of your blessings,
and, in turn, equally worthy of the advocacy of the people of God.
Christ is our voice in the world,
The Word of God, as spoken to humankind,
Show us, Lord, how to love our neighbor
and care for the ones lost to the flock.
He spoke so that we might understand.
He taught, so that we might learn.
He acted, so that we might effect change in our lives, and the lives of others.
And he gave his life so that, we might live in the grace of God.
We have no excuse.
His Spirit remains with us
Moving us to look with different eyes,
Hear with the ears of one who loves his brother and sisters
And act to assure that life is protected in every way it is manifest.
As your Church, we stand as one,
asking for the protection of those who cannot protect themselves.
We pray for justice for those who have no voice.
We pray for our civil leaders, that they may have the courage
to act on behalf of all in need;
To resist the factions that would lead them astray
and to open their hearts to hear the cry of the disenfranchised
This we pray, In the name of God our Creator,
Christ our Brother and the Spirit who remains with us. Amen.

A Children’s Prayer for Lawmakers
Oh God,
You have made all of us and you love us.
You created us in your image. We are your children.
God’s people come in all shapes and sizes.
Some have all they need
but some are poor.
Some are not healthy.
Some are in prison.
Some have not lived in our country for very long.
Some are little children who cannot take care of themselves.
Some are not even born yet!
But you, oh God, love them all.
And we should love them, too, because we are your people.
We pray for the grown-ups that make the laws in our state and in our country
We pray that they have the courage to write good laws for all your people.
We join our prayers with the prayers of our bishops and our priests,
our teachers and all the people in our Church,
as they encourage our lawmakers
to take care of the people who need their help.
We ask this in the name of the God of Love.
Amen.

Oracion de Apoyo
Oh Divino Creador,
Tú nos llevas en la palma de tu mano.
Ante tus ojos, toda la vida es digna;
Y todos merecemos tu amor y tu cuidado.
No dejas solos, ni abandonas
A quienes no tienen sustento;
A los enfermos, los ancianos, los intelectualmente discapacitados;
A los prisioneros y los inmigrantes;
Todos son tus hijos, igualmente dignos de tus bendiciones,
E igualmente dignos de nuestro apoyo.
Cristo es nuestra voz en el mundo,
La Palabra de Dios, que llega a la humanidad,
Enséñanos, Señor, como amar a nuestro prójimo
Y como cuidar de los que se han extraviado del rebaño.
El habló para que podamos entender.
El enseñó, para que podamos aprender.
El actuó, para que cambiemos nuestras vidas y las vidas de otros.
Y dio su vida para que podamos vivir en la gracia de Dios.
No tenemos excusa.
Su Santo Espíritu permanece en nosotros
Motivándonos a mirar con otros ojos,
Escuchar con los oídos de quien ama a sus hermanos y hermanas
Y actuar asegurándonos de proteger la vida en todas sus expresiones.
Como tu Iglesia, somos una,
Pidiendo protección para los que no puede protegerse ellos mismos.
Y orando para que se haga justicia a quienes no tienen voz.
Oramos por nuestros líderes civiles, para que tengan el valor
De actuar en nombre de quienes lo necesiten;
De resistir las divisiones que puedan desviarlos
Y de abrir sus corazones para escuchar el grito de quienes no tienen voto.
Esto lo pedimos en nombre de Dios nuestro Creador,
Cristo nuestro hermano y el Espíritu que permanece en nosotros. Amen.

Oración de los Niños para Nuestros Legisladores
Oh Dios,
Tú nos has creado a todos y nos has dado tu amor.
Nos creaste a tu imagen. Somos tus hijos.
El pueblo de Dios viene en todas formas y tamaños.
Algunos tienen todo lo que necesitan,
Pero algunos tienen carencias,
Algunos no tienen salud,
Algunos están en prisión,
Algunos no han vivido en nuestro país por mucho tiempo,
Algunos son tan pequeñitos que no pueden cuidarse solos,
Y algunos… ¡aún no nacen!
Pero tú, Dios bondadoso, los amas a todos.
Y nosotros debemos amarlos también, porque son tus hijos.
Pedimos por las personas que hacen las leyes en nuestro estado y en nuestro país
Para que tengan el valor de escribir leyes buenas para todos tus hijos.
Unimos nuestras oraciones con las de los obispos y sacerdotes,
Nuestros maestros y toda la gente de nuestra Iglesia,
Mientras ellos persuaden a los legisladores
A cuidar de la gente que necesite su ayuda.
Te lo pedimos en nombre del Dios del Amor.
