This past week, I and four
parishioners from St. Joseph
attended a conference in Denver
call “The Amazing Parish.” The
purpose of the conference was
to teach parishes how to build a
solid foundation rooted in prayer
that is geared toward discipleship and evangelization.
It was great to meet people from parishes all over the
country who have a deep desire to transform their
parishes into vibrant places filled with the Holy Spirit.
Esta última semana, yo y cuatro feligreses de San
José asistimos a una conferencia en Denver llamada
"La parroquia asombrosa." El propósito de la
conferencia era enseñar a las parroquias como
construir una base sólida, arraigada en la oración que
está dirigida hacia el discipulado y la evangelización.
Fue genial conocer a gente de las parroquias en todo
el país que tienen un profundo deseo de transformar
sus parroquias en lugares vibrantes llenas del Espíritu
Santo.
Since coming to St. Joseph a month and a half ago, I
have witnessed the fire of the Holy Spirit within many
of the parishioners here. I also sense a deep desire
on the part of many to carry out Jesus’ command to
“go out to all the nations and make disciples.” And
why shouldn’t we? Do we not have the very presence
of Jesus in the Sacraments and in particular the
Eucharist? Do we not have the intercession of the
Blessed Virgin Mary to encourage us to be faithful to
her Son and His Church? Yes we do! But it starts
with basic things such as a welcoming people, having
beautiful and uplifting liturgies, good preaching, and
most importantly, being a people rooted in prayer.
In addition, having beautiful grounds that are attractive
to people as they drive by the church tells them that
we love our faith, we love our Church, and we are
ready to bring that good news to the city of Killeen and
beyond. And we must never forget the awesome
school we have here! Catholic education is so
incredibly important in our world today and we have a
goldmine in St. Joseph school right here in our midst!
Please continue to support our school and Catholic
education in general. Fr. Cesar and I look forward to
continue meeting you all and spending time with you
and getting to know you in a meaningful way.
Desde mi llegada a San José hace un mes y medio,
he sido testigo del fuego del Espíritu Santo dentro de
muchos de los feligreses aquí. También tengo la
sensación de un deseo profundo por parte de muchos
para llevar a cabo lo que Jesús comanda "ir a todas
las Naciones y hacer discípulos." Y ¿por qué no? ¿No
tenemos la presencia de Jesús en los sacramentos y
en particular la Eucaristía? ¿No tenemos la
intercesión de la Santísima Virgen María para
alentarnos a ser fieles a su hijo y a su iglesia? Sí los
tenemos! Pero comienza con cosas básicas como
gente acogedora, con hermosas y edificantes
liturgias, buena predicación y lo más importante,
siendo un pueblo arraigado en la oración.
Además, tener hermosos terrenos que sean atractivos
a las personas que pasan y les diga que amamos
nuestra fe, amamos nuestra iglesia, y estamos
dispuestos a llevar esa buena noticia a la ciudad de
Killeen y más allá. ¡Y no debemos olvidar la escuela
impresionante que tenemos aquí! La Educación
Católica es tan increíblemente importante en nuestro
mundo de hoy y tenemos una mina de oro en la
escuela de San José aquí en medio de nosotros!
Por favor sigan apoyando nuestra escuela y la
educación católica en general. El padre Cesar y yo
esperamos seguir conociendo a todos y pasar tiempo
con ustedes y llegar a conocerles de una manera
significativa.
