Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras, (UNAH)
• UNAH has 166 years, was founded on September 19, 1847.
• It’s the national public institution autonomous and decentralized,
which has the responsibility to organized, manage and develop the High
Education and professional1.
• Actually has 80,000 students in all campus
• UNAH offers 121 university degrees, in undergraduate, graduate and
technical studies. And these programs are served by more than 3,000
professors.

Students have the option of joining one of the ten faculties in the
following fields: Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Economics,
Legal Sciences, Medical Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy, Engineering, Dentistry

UNAH currently offers 19 technical undergraduate programs (two and a half years) and 47
bachelor programs (four to five years). All the programs are taught in Spanish and some are

Master degree studies
The UNAH Postgraduate Programs currently offers 24 Masters Degrees, 17 Medical Specialties,
and 4 Certification Programs. All of our programs are taught in Spanish and each Program has

PhD studies
Currently UNAH is offering a PHD Program in Social Sciences for Development Management. This
Program started in 1988 as a necessary academic space was theoretical, epistemological, ethical,
methodological aspects of development might be studied in Honduras. Approximately 50% of the
PhD´s professors are international visiting professors that provide a wide range of perspectives
and knowledge. This program is taught in Spanish and lasts approximately two years.

A new offer in Phd is the In the Faculty of Economic Sciences offer the Phd in Direction
Management. This program is taugh in Spanish.
Post-doctoral research and Staff
UNAH has established as one of its priorities to increase and expand our field of research and
scientific publications. Therefore we are most interested in developing research groups with
international professors and students. The Scientific Research Department (DICU) coordinates, and
collaborates in the realization of scientific research in the University. Through DICU, UNAH offers

UNAH in 2012 opens one High Technologic Institute in the Atlantic Litoral network, ITS- Tela, this
institute offers a special academic offer focus on the economic and social development of the
Atlantic region rich in natural resources, turism and intercultural population.
By 2013 we are active in 22 International Networks, and have more than 45 International
Agreements and 6 international projects.

Honduran Academic System
According to the Higher Education Academic System in Honduras, the academic stages of higher
education, are obtained with the accumulation of credit units3. The Credit units represent the
effort of the students4.
In Undergraduate the credit unit represents an hour of academic activity5 in a fifteen (15) weeks
academic period6. The Academic charge of an Undergraduate student is 16 credit units or 48 hours
per week. In Postgraduate the credit unit represents an hour per week of academic activity in a
period of fifteen (15) weeks. The Academic charge of Postgraduate students is twelve (12) credit
units.

LANGUAGE AND LANGUAGE CERTIFICATES: All the academic programs in UNAH are in Spanish it
is a requirement a High Spanish level. To strength the knowledge of Spanish we will offer a Spanish
course during the stay.
SERVICES AND OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE GRANTEES
For AMIDILIA Project UNAH offers a dynamic academic environment in our two campus Ciudad
Universitaria (CU) y UNAH-VS located in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.
In both cities the accommodations are comfort with a multi services in host, food, entertainment,
commerce, tourism and others.
About host: At your arrival we will have an accommodation offer for your preference the prices
vary between $200 and $500 it depends in the living area. We recommend living near the Campus,
is easy to come walking or bike.
Transport: Around the campus is keep varying of transport (Bus, taxi) it cost from $0.50 to $10. It
depends on what you take. A recommendation is to take a taxi service with a recommended
service (we will prepare a list of recommendations)
Orientation: UNAH offers orientation at the arrival of the students that means a workshop that
will give all the orientation about living in Honduras topics, like: culture food, families,
entertainment, security and others.
Language: UNAH has a special department of Spanish they will be in charged to give participants a
Spanish course at their arrival.
Register, Permanence and egress: At their arrival we will give the entire guide to make the
register at UNAH platform.
AMIDILA MOBILTY PROJECT
For exchange students we ask for a University-Society Link Project, that means the student have to
design and to collaborate with the career in a project according to the field of study and the
objectives of AMDILIA . We ask for a proposal of the project at the selection process and at the
permanence will have the tutoring of the project UNAH society Career Coordinator. We have also
the option the student can collaborate in a project that already exist in the career or faculty. For
this option the aspirants can ask directly for an individual orientation. At the end of the experience
the student and the career coordinator has to present the results of the project.
