Paso 1 - I-70 East Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)

Highway DEIS
Alternatives
The highway alternatives include the No-Action Alternative and
four build alternatives. Two of these build alternatives are
located on the existing I-70 alignment (Alternatives A and B) and
two are located on the realignment (Alternatives C and D).
Alternatives A and C add additional general purpose lanes while
Alternatives B and D add either additional general purpose lanes
or new toll lanes depending on the location in the corridor.
Highway alternatives being evaluated in the DEIS include:
' No-Action Alternative - Reconstruct the viaduct between
Brighton Boulevard and Colorado Boulevard without adding
lanes
' DEIS Alternative A - General purpose lanes on existing I-70
alignment
' DEIS Alternative B - Toll lanes on existing I-70 alignment
' DEIS Alternative C - General purpose lanes on I-70
realignment
' DEIS Alternative D - Toll lanes on I-70 realignment
Different options are being evaluated in some of the alternatives.
These options include adding one or two general purpose lanes in
each direction between I-25 and I-270, shifting to the north or
south between Brighton Boulevard and I-270, using the existing
level (viaduct) or below grade between Brighton Boulevard and
Colorado Boulevard, and two options for connecting the
realignment to existing I-70 near Brighton Boulevard.

No-Action Alternative Viaduct Replacement

The No-Action Alternative normally includes short-term safety
and maintenance improvements that maintain the continuing
operation of the roadway. Because of the condition of the
existing viaduct between Brighton Boulevard and Colorado
Boulevard, the No-Action Alternative for the I-70 East Corridor
EIS includes replacing the viaduct in this area. This
replacement is necessary to maintain the continuing
operation of I-70 and does not include any additional travel
lanes. Replacing the viaduct will require a shift to the north or
the south.

Replacing the viaduct would need to happen in phases.

how the viaduct could be replaced.
